LEAD SOFTWARE DEVELOPER
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will be the Lead S/W Engineer in support of the National Weather Service (NWS), Office of Hydrologic Development (OHD) in the development of scientific applications pertaining to the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) and Advanced Hydrologic Processing System (AHPS). Selected candidate will be the task lead for a task supporting 3 other developers, but will also function as a hands on S/W developer. Ideal candidate will be an experienced S/W Engineer with a varied technical background. This individual will function as the liaison between OHD HQ Operations and OHD Field Operations, gathering and coordinating requirements, schedules, etc. with users geographically disbursed, so excellent independent user coordination and "people" skills are a must.
Requirements:
At least 5 years of software engineering experience using C
At least 2 years of Java back-end programming experience
Database background is desirable (Oracle/Informix)
Experience migrating legacy code, like FORTRAN is a plus
Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
