LITIGATION SUPPORT SPECIALIST - Jackson, MS (one position)
Labat-Anderson, Inc., a Federal Government Contractor, seeks a Litigation Support Specialist to work at the Department of Justice, United States Attorney?s Office (USAO) for the Southern District of Mississippi. The USAO for the Southern District of Mississippi is the principal litigator for the United States Government in the forty-five (45) southern counties in the State of Mississippi. The USAO is responsible for the prosecution of criminal cases brought by the Federal Government, the prosecution and defense of civil cases in which the United States is a party, and the collection of debts owed the Federal government which are administratively uncollectible.
The USAO for the Southern District of Mississippi has a requirement for Litigation Support Specialist support services. These services will assist the USAO in the prosecution of criminal fraud cases bought by the Federal government.
The Litigation Support Specialist shall be responsible for performing duties in facilitating the collection of criminal debts. The Litigation Support Specialist?s duties are characterized by a practical working knowledge of the laws, regulations and agency requirements of the assigned specialized program area(s) including Title 18 of the United States Code, regulations associated with that Title, and law enforcement agency requirements of the assigned specialized program areas, relevant to the prosecution of cases associated with fraudulent acts committed by persons following the Hurricane Katrina disaster.
The Litigation Support Specialist shall coordinate and assist in conducting investigations with criminal prosecutors, criminal paralegals, case agents, and other USAO designated personnel to provide technical assistance to litigation teams on legal automation requirements and systems capabilities to facilitate litigation decisions, trial preparation and trial presentation. Litigation Support Specialist will apply a basic knowledge of Federal Criminal procedures, court requirements, and district practices to implement computer applications needed for criminal cases.
The Litigation Support Specialist shall work with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs), investigators, federal agents and support staffs to develop the most effective strategy to meet litigation needs. The Litigation Support Specialist shall develop alternative methods for the use of automated support for trial preparation and presentation.
The Litigation Support Specialist shall identify software packages such as: databases, spreadsheets and word processing applications based on the effectiveness of (1) presenting complex and voluminous evidence, (2) producing graphic demonstrative evidence, and (3) meeting individual user needs and make recommendations for the most effective trial presentation.
The Litigation Support Specialist shall assist attorneys and legal support staff in organizing voluminous case information for efficient retrieval through automated means such as scanning, indexing and controlling of documents into a data base. Litigation Support Specialist shall assures documents are organized for efficient automated storage and retrieval by preparing appropriate indices, defining data file search criteria and indexing/coding fields.
The Litigation Support Specialist shall manage and operate a variety of computer hardware such as printers, plotters, audio-visual devices, and other state-of-the-art equipment to conceptualize exhibits and complete special presentation projects. The Litigation Support Specialist shall apply knowledge of U.S. Attorney and court programs, automation requirements and characteristics to resolve problems.
The Litigation Support Specialist shall perform work that involves communicating through visual means by assuring computers and VCR/TV recording equipment is in place in courtrooms and grand jury sessions and shall operates systems in the courtroom as needed. The Litigation Support Specialist may prepare photo boards, maps, charts and other demonstrative exhibits required for litigation.
The Litigation Support Specialist shall be proficient in various computer software programs (e.g., Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook and Word Perfect). The Litigation Support Specialist shall possess experience which demonstrates skills in entering data into and retrieving data from a database, following up on requests for information, report preparation, problem-solving, setting priorities and meeting deadlines and communicating with officials and high-level employees within and outside of the organization.
The Litigation Support Specialist?s principal place of performance is the United States Attorney?s Office, 188 East Capitol Street, Suite 500, Jackson, MS 3920. The Litigation Support Specialist may be required to provide services at other district offices or other directed locations. Access to the work place will be from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday, except on federal holidays. This position will be compensated for up to forty of hours work per week with a flexible work schedule due to the possibility of evening or weekend meetings. It is anticipated that during the course of this contract there will be occasions when work will be required outside normal operating hours.
This is a contract position. US Citizenship is required. Applicants must pass a credit check. Position requires successful background check. Compensation is $18.95 to $30.00 per hour DOE.
