Lead Software Engineer-Java
Join a dynamic group in the E-Commerce technology team working on cutting edge Java and .NET development to provide eCommerce solutions for the West Education Group. The candidate will work with a highly skilled team to deliver full front to back solutions for the business, including development of code to implement new business ideas from database to business logic and user interface modules.
The eCommerce team consists of diverse and challenging development areas focusing on a variety of customers, both externally and internally. Focus on storefront web application development targeting students, attorneys, and all other customers interested in Thomson West products. Also development teams are responsible for life long learning website applications to help our customers at each step of their career.
Opportunities include business analysis, applications analysis, applications development, project management and testing. Technologies include J2EE Architecture, Java, .NET Architecture (ASP.NET, VB.NET, C#),ICS, WebSphere, Web Services, Siebel, Informatica, Affinium, XML/XSL, Microsoft Commerce Server, Oracle and SQL Server.
Primary Responsibilities:Technically lead complex projects, including estimating requirements, designing systems and helping to develop solutions Mentor less experienced team members, formally and informally Challenge ways of doing things, offering up new ideas and presenting those ideas in a variety of forums; one on one, group settings, etc. Solve complex problems independently with minimal technical or managerial guidance Work with the business to help define development requirements Design and develop software solutions that meet business requirements Collaborate with other departments in troubleshooting and correcting system configuration problems Acquire and maintain additional technical skills for professional development Communicate in a professional manner with staff, peers, senior staff, and internal or external customers Show a demonstrated ability to learn new technologies, processes and systems quickly Produce and maintain detailed technical and business documentation for assigned tasks and projects Conduct informal training for team members on new topics in technology Show innovative problem solving, data analysis, design and testing skills Demonstrate ability to work effectively in a team environment and to balance independent work as well as working with others Ensure work meets functionality and quality expectations within given timelines Create design and support documentation Maintaining software solutions developed by you and other team members Generate innovative approaches and solutions to recurring problems Offer ideas for quality and process improvements that align with the organization?s goals Assist in the implementation of new practices, processes and tools
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science or related degree 5+ years of object oriented design and development experiences in a variety of programming and scripting languages such as Java, J2EE, JSP, .NET, C#, ASP.NET, XML, UML, HTML, SQL, JavaScript, IIS 5+ years experience with relational databases such as MSSQL Server and Oracle Experience with multi-tier application design and development and knowledge of design patterns Experience using and creating webservices Effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills Strong problem solving, analysis, design, and testing skills Quick learner, eager to leverage new technologies in a dynamic team environment
Preferred QualificationsKnowledge and use of unit testing applications such as NUnit Knowledge of back end business systems such as SAP and Siebel
