MVS Systems Programmer

Job Summary

Learn the day-to-day requirements of maintaining the MVS Operating System while becoming familiar with the installation, and maintenance of MVS and various 3rd party products. Begin taking responsibility for day-to-day requirements of maintaining the production MVS and 3rd party environments Assist the senior systems staff as needed.

 

Essential Job Functions

1.  Learn the host mainframe operating system and the data processing environment to assist the senior staff with maintenance as needed.

2.  Install, maintain, and support various 3rd party products.

3.  Assume 1st Level troubleshooting and problem determination responsibilities.

4. Responsible for the creation and maintenance of Service Level Reporting.

5. Work in conjunction with other Systems Programmer?s to maintain hardware configurations.

6. Participate in Disaster Recovery planning and testing.

7. Verify End of Service dates for various 3rd Party products on a regular basis.

8.  Attend work on a regular basis, on time, and withstand varying degrees of stress.

 



Education and Experience



Completion of a technical training program in data processing.  Two to five years of operations or programming experience in an IBM mainframe environment. Programming knowledge in SAS and/or COBOL (SAS preferred).

 

Skills and Abilities

Ability to perform work in accordance with specific procedures.  A relatively high level of analytical ability required to find solutions to difficult technical problems.  Ability to organize work and meet established goals.
