The application hosting services department is responsible for the delivery of services associated with the hosting of business applications. These services include: support, administration, repair, and capacity management. The scope of this organization is all domestic facilities for Cardinal Health.
The Windows Server team is responsible for all administrative and support processes for 2500 systems across Cardinal running various flavors of Microsoft Windows (NT 4, 2000 and 2003).
General Focus of Position:
Provide strategic leadership and direction to a blended, external (vendor) and internal (staff), team in the support and management of the Cardinal Windows Servers. The scope of this team's responsibilities include solving problems, fulfilling requests and maintaining availability of 2500 Windows servers across the Cardinal Enterprise. Performs all aspects of normal personnel functions including staffing, development, discipline, compensation, performance evaluations and coaching. Responsible for budget forecasting and monitoring expenditures within budgetary limits to ensure sound fiscal control. Systems and staff are geographically dispersed across the United States
Responsibilities:
Accountable for leadership of staff in achieving service level objectives related to administration and support of the Windows server infrastructure.
Plan and organize workload and staff assignments. Recruit, hire, train, evaluates, direct, motivate and discipline assigned staff as necessary. Promotes teamwork and excellence amongst all members of the Windows server organization across three regional teams. Reviews progress and direct changes as needed. Develop career growth alternatives for staff.
Accountable for providing leadership and direction in the development of short and long range goals within the Windows server team. Gather, interpret and prepare technical data for study, reports and recommendations. Coordinate department activities with other departments as needed.
Ensure that assigned areas of responsibility are performed within department budget. Monitor and compile with annual budgetary plans and forecast to ensure effective and efficient use of assigned budgeted funds. Responsible for software and hardware purchase justifications and invoice verification.
Accountable for determining work procedures, prepares work assignments, and expedites workflow.
Provide professional and technical advice to staff. Make presentations to assigned staff, end users and upper management.
Accountable for overseeing Corporate wide configuration, administration and security requirements on all Windows server systems.
Through teams, monitor system performance and capacity. Will make recommendations to upper management for performance enhancements and capacity upgrades.
Responsible for evaluation of technical software integration and maintenance. Review installation procedures, project plans and readiness reviews. Provide training as needed to users, system development, and support on system changes and/or enhancements.
Review project plans, proposals and system assuredness documents for proposed technology solutions within the Windows server systems. Evaluate recommendations from administrative staff on new third party utility/software packages.
Accountable for ensuring administrative support to operations staff, relating to system and network problems. This includes after hours on call duty for critical processes. Lead staff in diagnosing and solving system problems.
Performs other duties or projects as assigned.
Education or Equivalent: (Minimum required to perform job)
Four-year degree or equivalent work experience. Incumbent must have at least 5 years direct staff supervision responsibility with a proven track record of customer satisfaction and delivery of results. Also required, experience managing a team in excess of 20 members in a 7x24 production environment. It is a minimal requirement that the incumbent have basic budgeting skills, staff management, and communication skills.
Knowledge/Skills Requirements: (List any special requirements to be able to perform job)
Must have extensive knowledge of information technology, specifically Windows server systems. Working knowledge of client/server network protocols and Internet/Intranet applications. Some database administration experience is also beneficial. Knowledge of Industry standards, policies and procedures. This position requires considerable decision making capabilities since most duties require evaluating numerous technical elements and alternatives which generally involves an in-depth understanding of the operating system administration in accordance with established MIS policies and procedures. Effective written and oral communication skills; capable of writing proposals or papers, acting as a vendor liaison, making presentations to customer or client audiences or professional peers, and working closely with upper management. Sensitivity to accuracy, timeliness, and professionalism in all aspects of the job.

Must be able to travel occasionally to various Cardinal Health locations
Travel to visit customers, suppliers, & other potential partners
