Manual Software Test Engineer
Primary Responsibilities:
Monitor a team of 3 to 5 engineers with general guidelines from the test project manager. On a routine basis, tasks will include planning, execution, assessment of results, determination of next steps and co-ordination with external groups for product conformance. Develop and execute software test plans. Analyze and write test standards and procedures. Maintain documentation of test results. Analyze test results and recommend corrective action. Verify analysis of test results for the team and guide decision making. Develop standard practices and procedures for analyzing situations or data. Work on complex problems and analyze situations where solutions may often require creativity and innovation to solve. Exercise creativity to develop defined procedures and practices to designate appropriate actions for given situations.
Core Level Qualifications:
Education: Requires a 4-year degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
Experience:
Team Leadership ? 2 year minimum experience leading a small group of engineers.
Product Planning ? 3 year minimum experience with product planning and knowledge of evaluation methods in the design, development, and debugging of software programs.
Software Quality Assurance ? 5 year minimum experience configuring and manually testing software applications and developing test plans and test cases.
Platforms/Operating Systems ? 5 year minimum with detailed experience working with, configuring, and administering various operating systems, primary focused on Windows Operating Systems.
Network Administration ? 5 year minimum experience with designing, configuring, and administering Ethernet networks.
Programming Languages ? 1 year minimum experience with developing simple programs or scripts and equivalent time debugging simple software programs. C, C++, .Net or Java development a plus.
Required Technical Skills:
Platforms/Operating Systems - Must have detailed knowledge of Windows 2000 and Windows NT configuration and administration. In addition, must have detailed understanding of operating system fundamentals. Basic knowledge of non-Windows operating systems is required.
Directory Services ? Must have detailed understanding of enterprise directory services (Active Directory, Sun One, Novell), AD is preferred.
IT infrastructure components - Must have detailed knowledge of key IT components, such as installation of DNS, DHCP, Mail Servers, such as Exchange, Firewall solutions, Router/switch configurations, and Web servers.
Database ? Must have a basic understand of databases. Experience with administration of any major database servers and detailed knowledge of database design and theory is a plus.
Networking - Must have a detailed understanding of network components and infrastructure. This should include networking hardware and basic networking theory.
Hardware ? Must have a detailed understanding of PC hardware and components. Understanding of hardware component architecture is a plus.
Programming Languages ? Must have simple programming skills in some scripting or programming language, knowledge of VB, C, C++, .Net or Java is a plus. Must have basic understanding of complex programming concepts.
Problem Solving ? Must have excellent problem solving skills and be capable of breaking down complex situations to discover and resolve root causes, this applies to both technical issues and process issues.
Additional Technical Skills and Experience (a plus):
? Knowledge of Windows Terminal Services and Citrix Products.
? Specialized hardware router configuration.
? An understanding of Web technologies, including web architecture, web server configuration, HTML, XML and web protocols.
? Relevant experience with security related industry standards, practices, applications and hardware, including FIPS-140, Common Criteria, SSL, HTTPS, RSA SecureId, Entrust, Kerberos, ? PAM, PKI, Smart-cards, biometrics, SAML, WS-Security, NTLM, Firewall technologies and VPNs.
Recommended Certifications/Knowledge: (also a plus):
CCI, CCNA, CCEA, CNE, MCSE, MCT
