NLP developer with Java, perl

By assigning codes directly from the free text of the medical record, the company's technology reduces the coding time for each record from up to 20 minutes per chart to just a few minutes.

These applications can code thousands of reports per hour increasing coding efficiencies by up to 300 percent and generating millions of dollars diagnosising certain medical conditions.

The company provides a full-service technology, Business Process Management and coding solution. In addition to the software solutions, they have experienced, in-house coding staff who reviews and return coded notes directly to the customer within 24 hours as finalized, billable documents.

The NLP team is a very diverse, extremely talented group. They are looking for another person to enhance their team with a breadth of experience including "real text processing", software engineering; someone who has worked for a search engine company doing COMPLICATED information extraction out of unstructured free text (finding all the relevant information like names, addresses, etc., normalizing and syntesizing into something useful). They are interested in people who have worked with LARGE amounts of data as there are differenct performance issues that arise in these systems. Someone who has worked on many types of projects, not just one kind of project. Specific experience with machine learning, data mining, statistical NLP, or large corpora are all very valuable, but none are strictly necessary.

They need NLP developer with solid programming (Java, perl, struts) and software engineering skills in addition to strong NLP skills.

Company is looking for a fulltime permanent Java developer to convert the existing Perl CGI based web application into Java. User interface intensive. Web application is a workflow engine so experience with a workflow engine would be optimal.

REQUIRED SKILLS

Strong NLP (indexing processes: tokenization, morphological and orthographic normalization, pattern recognition, semantic expansion of queries, etc.)

Very strong information retrieval experience

Strong parsing experience

Regular expressions

5+ years of Java, Java, J2EE, JSP, JDBC, EJB, struts (better yet - JSF), Junit

JBoss application server or any app server; WebLogic/Websphere

XML, SGML

Familiarity with Vi * 2 years

Scripting languages

Perl (existing application is written in perl); some cgi would be nice

Spring / Hibernate

Experience with databases, MySQL in particular

NICE TO HAVES
Apache Tomcat web server - servlet container
Ant
JMX - messaging framework

Experience working in healthcare applications is a big advantage.

Environment is JBoss application sever, Apache Tomcat web server, MySQL

Linux environment (people who only have experience with MS need not apply)
