Network Engineer (2006-2007)
Network Engineer 20 06-2007 Raytheon Polar Services ? Experience Antarctica
Seeking a unique adventure as well as employment? How would you like to be one of the few people on the planet to have the opportunity to live and work at or near the geographic South Pole? Raytheon Polar Services is the primary contractor for the National Science Foundation?s (NSF) U.S. Antarctic Program. We are currently looking for Network Engineers
to deploy to McMurdo, Palmer or South Pole Antarctic research stations for various periods of time beginning in August or October of 2006.
Responsibilities:
The Network Engineer will be primarily responsible for supporting the station?s network infrastructure, including Windows 2003 servers running Exchange, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Veritas backup. There will also be some day-to-day maintenance of the Cisco based gigbit network, wireless network, Call Manager, and VoIP telephones, as well as administering Solaris and Linux servers. Additionally, the new South Pole Station is under construction, and the Network Engineer may have an opportunity to participate in the installation and configuration of new servers and network equipment. This is going to be a one of a kind network environment that will not be duplicated anywhere in the world.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor?s Degree or five years career experience in system and/or network administration in lieu of a degree. Five years of directly relevant experience in network engineering required. Experience with Windows 2000 servers required along with Exchange and Active Directory. This is primarily a Microsoft and Cisco shop, so MCSE and CCNP certifications are strongly preferred. Solaris system administration and Checkpoint Firewall experience a big plus. Solid background with the complete Cisco suite of hardware and software products essential.
Additional Polar Info:
All contract positions include competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package. For the time you are in Antarctica compensation also includes travel to and from the ice, room & board, and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus upon successful completion of your contract. FYI ? Only authorized personnel are allowed on station and you need to remain on station for the duration of your contract except in case of emergency.
Antarctica is not owned by any one country so you do pay income tax based on your USA state of residence. Check out our website at
