Network Engineer I - (CB20530)

POSITION PURPOSE:
Receives directions on routine and non-routine assignments. Works independently for most work assignments, with review by more Senior Engineering staff. One to several tasks are assigned concurrently with direction readily available. Problems are varied and range from simple to moderately complex. Resolution is both reactive and proactive; typically requires research and analysis. Work and assignments requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment. Contact is typically informative in nature and involves the exchange of routine or factual technical information. Deals with both internal and external contacts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Responsible for planning, investigating, designing, and implementing physical and logical communications networks that impact individual sites.
2. Analyze needs and provide solutions for Data communications assignments.
3. Responsible for providing advice to network personnel regarding application design specifications for segments of an application.
4. Responsible for following established network direction.
5. Responsible for providing assistance on technical and operational features, functions, and attributes of the existing networks.
6. Responsible for the evaluation and study of vendor products and making recommendations for the purchase and/or upgrade of data networks and telecommunication equipment.
7. Responsible for ensuring security procedures are implemented and enforced.
8. Responsible for troubleshooting network-related problems.
9. Responsible for assisting in the resolution of software support issues related to network design specification.
10. Responsible for installing all network software, hardware, and telecommunication equipment and providing on-going technical support.
11. Responsible for assisting on the more advanced network projects.
12. Responsible for conducting training programs related to the network topology.
13. Responsible for assisting in the implementation of new advanced networking technologies.
14. Responsible for providing network documentation
15. Responsible for 7x24 on-call rotational escalation assignments.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent education in a related discipline is required. Related work experience can be substituted for educational requirement.

Professional Certifications:
Cisco CCNA certification or other vendor equivalent must be attained within six months of position acceptance. Certification must be maintained.
Job Related Experience:
Typically requires five plus years network communications, electronics, or related experience.
Management Experience:
Project management experience is a plus.

3. Good written, verbal, and non-verbal skills.
4. Knowledge of communication networks and data transport protocols.
5. Knowledge of the relationship of how the software relates to the hardware being used.
6. Knowledge of how Fiserv's existing technology can address our customers' needs is a plus.
7. An understanding of the new telecommunication technologies is a plus.
