Network Security Specialist

This Security Specialist is responsible for establishing and maintaining electronic security procedures and processes to support efficient operations and mitigate known risks to operations.  Ensuring the secure operation of in-house firewalls, network, servers, workstations and applications are key responsibilities of this position.

 

Interpret, develop, maintain and enforce compliance with state and federal security policies, guidelines, standards and industry security management best practices.  Establish and audit the connection security policies for local and wide area networks, departmental websites and email communications.

 

Specify requirements and coordinate/monitor use of electronic security systems including firewalls and intrusion detection systems.  Coordinate the design, testing and deployment of network firewall rules.  Design firewall rule management protocols.  Plan, coordinate and execute network risk analyses and intrusion detection systems. Coordinate all security solutions including client security, routers, switches, firewalls, web filters, proxy servers, and packet analyzers.  Audit network security hosts and devices and use root-cause analysis to trace, isolate and resolve network security problems, weaknesses and intrusions.  Troubleshoot hardware and software based network security errors, faults, and alarms and perform restorative actions. Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of security enhancement and development efforts.

 

Develop technical documentation and detailed project plans to effectively manage projects and deploy with limited impact on operations. Provide technical expertise and advice to other technical staff during project implementation.  Direct and manage vendors and consultants during all phases of the project.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. 3-5 years experience in network security design, development, operation and maintenance. Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) In-depth hands-on knowledge of firewalls, intrusion detection systems, anti-virus software, and data encryption. In-depth technical knowledge of workstation and CISCO networking technologies, platform operating systems, TCP/IP and network administration/protocols. Experience in project management and planning. Knowledge of industry security management best practices. Experience supporting an enterprise with multiple locations. Strong written and oral communications.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 CompTIA Security+ Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator ? Security (MCSA-S) Security Certified Network Professional (SCNP) Security Certified Network Architect (SCNA) Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP) or CCIE Experience with Checkpoint firewalls and windows server and workstation administration. Experience in leading and/or managing IT staff.
