Network Systems Engineer

Complexity:

Design and maintain architecture for proprietary and satellite segments of the Comtech Network.  Collaborate with Engineering Group on design and development of network related elements (network components, monitoring/analysis tools, customer applications).  Collaborate with Network Operations Group on architecting, deploying, maintaining and monitoring the traditional IP segments of the network.  Participate in strategic planning for future expansion of network capacity and capability.  Create design specifications for ancillary software systems to monitor network performance.  Consult and advise network customers as they build applications based on the Comtech network technology.  Develop and maintain general policies and procedures for network maintenance and satellite transceiver provisioning.  Assist with troubleshooting of advanced network issues.  Create and maintain network architecture documentation (configurations, diagrams, etc). Design and manage acceptance testing criteria and procedures for network components.  Interface with technical staff of satellite services providers.  Understand and manage technical implementation of contractual requirements of satellite service agreements.

 

Minimum Requirements/Skills:Bachelor Degree required.  Electrical Engineering or related discipline desired, or comparable system development experience. At least 8-years of hands-on experience architecting, deploying and supporting network topographies.Ability to perform detailed network capacity analysis.Moderate experience with a UNIX system usage and administration practices (preferably using FreeBSD and/or Red Hat Linux).Candidate will be required to demonstrate ability to effectively communicate technical designs to team members.  Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to assist with emergency troubleshooting and configuration of Cisco router, firewall and switch devices.Ability to lead a team based troubleshooting effort for the network performance issues.Ability to advance the troubleshooting capabilities of Network Operations and Customer Support staff.Preference given to candidates with the following additional skills: SATCOM industry experience ? particularly in RF Engineering or regulatory practice; Network Administration Certifications (or requisite training courses); Expertise in network security, UNIX system administration and encryption technology; Programming skills including Java, C/C++, Perl, VB, shell; Software design experience particularly involving applications with the following characteristics: Real-time event monitoring and alarm processing, web-based functionality including both client an server-side software modules; Inter-process and/or inter-platform communication between models using TCP/IP and UDP protocols; Interaction with SQL databases (preferably MYSQL and/or SQL Server.
