Operations Command Center Systems Administrator II

The Operations Command Center Systems Administrator II position is located in the Lowes Operations Command Center in North Wilkesboro, NC, but will be moving to Mooresville, NC by the end of 2008. This position will participate in the shift rotation and responsibilities of the team to provide 24x7 operational support. This position will participate in the day shift rotation and responsibilities of the team to provide 24x7 operational support. This role includes monitoring and resolution of OS, network and security issues, ticket que responsibilities, overall health of servers/network and first/second line troubleshooting. Person will interface with other technology and project teams to perform operational tasks/implement solutions. This person will adhere to firm standard policies and procedures and change control processes. This position requires data center operation experience in a large enterprise environment.

This person will perform diagnostics, resolve problems, escalate problems to vendors as required, work with other group members, and take appropriate actions to assure appropriate and prompt solutions to system, application, and customer problems. In addition, they will also make recommendations regarding hardware and software improvements, prepare/maintain documentation (both operational and troubleshooting) on systems/services/applications, and provide user assistance to Lowe??s IT Personnel. Will install, configure, maintain, document, troubleshoot and upgrade hardware, firmware, peripherals, operating systems, and applications as required.

Associates degree or equivalent experience required. The prospective OSA II should possess prior experience in a datacenter environment as an computer operator, sys admin or network technician with 5 to 7 years experience in a similar Mainframe and Distributed Systems support environment. Three (3) or more years experience working in UNIX Systems Admin capacity. Proficiency in the following disciplines is required: UNIX, Windows/Intel, Networking, MVS Operations and Batch Processing. In addition, the OSA I will be required to develop skills needed to maintain the operation of SAN, Database and Security environments.

Technical Skills:

?X Expert-level systems architect and systems administrator (sysadmin).
?X Intermediate-level architect and sysadmin for Storage Area Network (SAN).
?X Intermediate-level sysadmin for AIX operating systems on IBM equipment.
?X Intermediate-level sysadmin for Red Hat and SUSE or other Linux variants.
?X Intermediate knowledge of systems management, monitoring, and long term trending of SLA, performance, and sizing metrics.
?X Intermediate to expert level system administrator (sysadmin) on Microsoft Windows 2000/2003 and AIX 5.X.
?X Theory and operations of backup systems. This includes the entire backup/restoration process for all supported servers/services.
?X Design and implementation of security best practices for servers and services.
?X Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
?X Intermediate knowledge of systems monitoring, and long term trending of SLA, performance, and sizing metrics.
?X Must have extensive experience with Microsoft Server 2000 and Server 2003
?X Intermediate experience with Microsoft Active Directory 2000 or 2003
?X Experience with Microsoft SQL 2000
?X Experience with MQ Series and Websphere is a plus
?X Experience with Microsoft Visio
?X Must have a knowledge of configuration and troubleshooting of Routing, Switching and VLAN??s
?X Experience with Firewall configuration and troubleshooting

Preferred Qualifications:
One of more of the following certifications: A+, Network+, CCNA, MCSA.
