Oracle/SQL Server DBA

Job Description -- The Oracle/SQL Server DBA demonstrates accomplished technical expertise. He/she works independently to solve complex problems requiring judgment based on functional experience. Seeks opportunities to improve products and processes. Recognizes areas for improvement within the team, the process, technology, etc. and takes appropriate action to initiate the change. Actively promotes teamwork to achieve group goals. May participate in the decision making process. Leads projects of limited scope in own discipline. Primary responsibility of this role may include:

Manage the IT infrastructure and operations for the Advisory practice. Key objectives and responsibilities of this role will include the following:

? SQL Server Database Administration (SQL Server DBA) - Required. Support and monitoring of SQL database servers that either reside on the PwC Production network or are not connected to the PwC Production network (i.e., on isolated networks) to ensure security, administration, and optimal performance is maintained. Database administration includes managing tablespaces, users, schemas, disk utilization, data related to active engagements, performance tuning, database hotfixes/service packs and administering database backups in accordance with SQL Server best practices and US IT standards for data retention and disaster recovery.

- Oracle Database Administration (Oracle DBA) - Required. Support of Oracle Database Servers that are on the PwC Production network (which can be administered remotely). The servers need to be monitored to ensure security, administration, backups, and optimal performance are maintained.Provide assistance to Client Service staff to load data, archive data and address any issues that arise.
- Deploy and maintain servers, workstations, peripherals, related IT equipment and application software as needed to support Advisory client service work. This may entail physically deploying systems in US IT space, dedicated labs, other PwC space (such as "war rooms") or at client sites.
? Assist with troubleshooting of any and all Advisory technology infrastructure issues/problems.
? Frequent interaction with Advisory staff at all levels. Interact with Advisory, US IT or LoS management on issues or projects of moderate complexity.
? Ensure that Advisory best practices and standards as well as Firm IT risk management standards and policies are utilized on all Advisory systems.
? Purchase hardware and software under the direction of Advisory Steering Committee while following all PwC purchasing policies.
? Liaise with US IT to develop and maintain the practice's IT infrastructure and facilitate IT service delivery to Advisory staff and PwC clients.
? Develop and maintain an understanding of Advisory products and services in order to make appropriate decisions with respect to IT infrastructure and operations that support the practice.
? Communicate with the Advisory practice at all levels to inform and educate them as to operational and policy issues related to Advisory labs, hardware and application software.

Act as DBA "mentor" for Junior level SQL Server DBA's in other offices. Take responsibility for the development of their DBA skills. Provide hands on training as necessary.

Work with database users to refine their SQL statements and get them to produce/create more efficient SQL. Be available to teach classes (on SQL & Oracle best practices) at training events.

Act as an entrepreneur to review database performance and come up with proactive solutions to improve performance.

Act as an analyst to study the work being done to current databases and act as an engineer to work with the server architects to design high end, better optimized database servers.

Information Technology / professional certifications highly desirable -- such
as Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), A+ certifications, Oracle
Certified Professional, etc.

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills:
? Knowledge of Oracle or Microsoft SQL Server database administration required.
Microsoft Windows NT/2000/2003/XP administration skills, including enterprise domain configuration, user setup and maintenance, volume share configuration, backup and recovery methodologies and an understanding of Windows security implementation issues.
? Systems design and engineering experience including hardware sizing, selection of server and workstation peripherals and configuration of storage sub-systems (e.g., tape libraries, RAID array controllers, SCSI and IDE hard drives, etc.).
? Enterprise network configuration knowledge with a strong understanding of TCP/IP and Windows NT/Microsoft Networking.
? Computer network configuration knowledge (e.g. routers, hubs, cabling, etc.).

? Experience with data backup methodologies (file backups, database backups, tape rotation strategies) and general awareness of disaster recovery and business continuity issues.
? Demonstrated experience diagnosing and resolving IT-related problems in a professional services or corporate environment.

Certification:
Information Technology / professional certifications highly desirable -- such as Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), A+ certifications, Oracle
Certified Professional, etc.
? Candidate must maintain a fair amount of scheduling flexibility due to unanticipated IT emergencies and short deadlines related to service of PwC client.
? Though this position is not 'on call' for 24x7 response, frequent after hours communication is likely in order to respond to client service demands.
