PMO Project Manager-- some hands on exp with C++, Java, Embedded, or Linux software & product dev

Industry Leader has an immediate opening in its R&D department for a Technical PROJECT MANAGER, who will lead & manage projects for Product Development, and who has hands on knowledge and/or experience with C++, Java, and/or Embedded Software Development. 

The person in this position will work closely with Development Engineering, Manufacturing, and Operations to guide projects through all phases of the company's Product Development Process. The primary responsibility is creating, managing, and coordinating the integrated project plans, including implementation schedules, cost estimates, and resource estimates, for Product, Services, and Applications deliveries. Resource tracking includes internal Development Resources, onsite Contract Resources, offsite Resources, external Vendors, etc. Project Plans include tasks, or interfaces to tasks, performed by groups within and outside of Engineering including Manufacturing, Support, and Operations. The Technical Project Manager is responsible for organizing regular status meetings and creating presentations for Engineering Management.

 

Accountabilities with Expected Results:

1.  Develop integrated project plans, implementation schedules, and cost estimates for projects of various sizes across all Engineering disciplines including Hardware, Mechanical, Embedded Software, and Application Software. Plans include project resource requirements, schedules, capital expenditures, expense expenditures, and physical resource allocation.

2.  Execute project plans including Purchase Order generation, coordination of resource allocation, and scheduling between groups.

3.  Perform day-to-day tracking of the assigned project(s) to ensure that policies and procedures are being followed, that goals and objectives are met, and that services and projects are being accomplished efficiently and effectively.

4.  Perform risk analysis, identify risk areas, and facilitate development of alternate plans or risk mitigation measures.

5.  Prepare presentations regarding the status of current project initiatives for regular communication with Engineering.

 Position Specifications

 

Experience/Skills:

1.  Four or more years software development experience; especially in C, C++, Java, or Linux

2.  Two or more years experience in a structured Product Development environment, using techniques, principles, and practices of Project and Program Management.

3.  Ability to perform in-depth work analyses and develop project budgets and projections.

4.  Advanced usage capabilities with standard Microsoft tools including Project, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

5.  Abilities in organizing resources and establishing priorities.

6.  Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

7.  Outstanding problem solving skills.

8.  Ability to support and track multiple simultaneous projects.

9.  Good interpersonal skills, including group facilitation, mediation, and conflict resolution.

10. Ability to consider the effect of actions and decisions on others, as well as long-term implications.

11. Ability to evaluate past decisions to improve effectiveness of future decisions and development efforts.

 

Education:

A 4-Year Degree in an Engineering Discipline or equivalent technical experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
