Package Engineer

All work will need to be performed onsite.
Up to 10 hours OT permitted and may be required.
Additional requirements: Client is looking for people that have skills with Wise Package Studio, and at least average knowledge of how to use SMS.  

 

Title/Role:  Package Engineer

Location:  Groton, Connecticut

 

Overall Responsibilities:

 

The Package Engineer, under general supervision, is responsible for participating in the development, deployment and administration of robust, high-availability workstation configurations and the deployment and configuration management of vendor supplied and BUIT developed applications.

 

Specific duties will include application into infrastructure compatibility testing and application deployment development and management. 

 

Additional duties include providing 3rd tier support for resolving application/infrastructure compatibility issues.  The responsibilities of the Application Engineer are summarized below:

 

Responsibility:

Design, development and management of software deployment packages and installer applications.

 

Analysis of application software solutions, vis a vis their impact on the production environment and regression testing against standard desktop and server configurations

 

Development of processes to turn-over solutions to operations and support organizations

 

 

Qualifications:

 

Five or more years of professional experience in IT for a research-based corporation, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry, demonstrating increased responsibility over time.

 

The Package Engineer should possess strong analytical and technical skills focusing on the areas of Windows 2000 Workstation, Windows XP, application deployment and management, with an in depth understanding of workstation architecture including ODBC, OLE and the windows registry. Experience in large volume deployment of applications using SMS, MSI, WISE, WinInstall and InstallSheild is required.

 

Experience in programming in Window Script Host, Visual Basic, Visual C++ and JavaScript is desired.

 

The Package Engineer should possess a Bachelor?s degree (or MS) in computer science or a related field, and be familiar with pharmaceutical (or related) research business practices and requirements, and be capable of communicating complex technical subjects with non-technical communities.
