Peoplesoft Financial Developer
Description:
The Peoplesoft Financial Developer will play an active role in the design and implementation of development initiatives that are based on the PeopleSoft Financials 8.4 platform and Cognos Impromptu operational reporting, specifically revenue-side applications including the PeopleSoft Contracts, PeopleSoft Receivables, and custom PeopleTools-developed Time & Charge Entry and Billings applications. This position will support the delivery and maintenance of operational reports that support the firm’s business users. The developer will also assist with the integration of a number of other critical components such as data warehouse, third party point solutions, etc. that support the delivery of these applications. The developer may play an instrumental role in the architecture, development and delivery of a global solution.
The developer will work under limited supervision to provide highly proficient application development services in the support and development of business applications. Incumbents work on all phases of the application development life cycle including initiation and planning, design, development, and implementation. They have responsibility for one or more applications, and work on multiple projects and/or manage small projects of 2 - 4 team members. They work with functional and technical associates to gather business requirements, provide technical support and consulting, and plan and prioritize their work, as well as coordinate the completion of work sent offshore. They not only apply established methodologies, processes, and procedures, but also contribute to development of new processes and the continuous improvement of existing processes.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of the core functionality offered in the Financial modules of PeopleSoft 8.4, including the PeopleSoft integration tools as well as related Cognos Impromptu operational reports.
Work with business analyst(s) to define business requirements, determine scope, estimate effort, and determine duration.
Translate business requirements into technical design documents that can be used to further enhance the product's feature set.
Follow the requirements of a project management methodology for project participation (providing timely, regular updates, etc.).
Write and/or maintain application software according to specifications and standards.
Perform ongoing support for applications - including system/batch monitoring and processing, handling user questions and queries, investigating and solving system problems, and providing on-call support services.
Follow standard application development controls and create and maintain all required documentation per established processes, and methodologies.
Perform system analysis and design of application components per business requirements - including pages, interfaces, database tables, and reports.
Develop and manage application code, user interfaces, and third-party integration components using PeopleSoft's PeopleTools development environment or other established development techniques.
Conduct and coordinate all aspects of software testing including unit testing, system testing, integration testing, and stress testing. This includes defining criteria, creating test scripts and scenarios, debugging, and documenting results.
Deliver specifications to an offshore team for coding and work with the offshore team to deliver quality results to business users.
Review work completed offshore.
Conduct meetings with functional teams to discuss priorities and status.
Defines and executes plans for small projects.
Work closely with teams within IS to develop/support system integration/infrastructure.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent
Finance / Accounting courses
3+ years development experience working with PeopleSoft Financials applications: e.g. PeopleTools, PeopleCode, SQR, Application Engine, SQL, reporting tools, etc.
2+ years experience writing detail design specifications
Knowledge of and experience with development principles and methodologies
3 or more years of application development experience with database management systems (e.g. DB2, Access, SQL Server, Oracle) with strong SQL skills
Experience with Unix DB2 desirable
General knowledge of operating systems (e.g. Windows, UNIX)
Working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, XML, and web client technologies desirable
Understanding of application architecture and technology infrastructure
Prior experience in PeopleSoft Financials implementation projects
Work experience in PeopleSoft Financials version 8.4 or later
Knowledge and use of reporting tools, including Cognos Impromptu, Query/Crystal, and 4th generation languages
Finance / Accounting background would be a plus
The developer should have experience in at least two of the following disciplines:
