Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, Engineering or equivalent technical experience in an IT environment with 2-4 years of ABAP experience including broad exposure to SAP report and enhancement development.
* Advanced integration knowledge
* Understanding and experience in a cGMP validated environment
* Experience with EAI technology a plus
* Working knowledge of Windows XP/2000 required
* Strong knowledge of troubleshooting procedures and excellent Analytical Skills.
* Experience in performing unit and integration tests
* Excellent written and verbal communications skills required
* Strong analytical skills including the ability to provide technical knowledge to the functional teams to accurately develop the technical specifications needed to develop, modify or maintain ABAP programs.
* Knowledge of and experience with enhancement tools like User Exits and BadIs; reporting tools like SAP Query, ALV reports, forms (SAPScript & SmartForms); data conversions using Legacy System Migration Workbench (LSMW), Electronic Data Interchange (EDI), Business Application Programming Interface (BAPI), Application Link Enabling (ALE), Intermediate Document (IDOC) and Remote Function Calls (RFCs).
* Minimum of seven years professional software development experience.
* Highly skilled in ABAP development with good understanding of code optimization and application performance.
* Working knowledge of at least 2 of the following: SD, PP, MM, BW.
* Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks in a team environment.
* Solid understanding of support and development process and practices.
* Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with clients, co-workers, and management,
* Good organizational skills.

DUTIES:
* Developing of ABAP programming objects, Smartforms, SapScript, and dialogue programs. The Principal Software Engineer will perform development activities in the test system using standard SAP development tools. The development in the test system ensures that a quality, tested product exists before promoting to the production client.
* Work with Business Analysts to update and maintain ABAP programs as needed to support changing business needs and to implement new SAP functionality. The Principal Software Engineer will meet with the Business Analyst to develop the functional requirement design technical solutions and test solutions. Interaction with the Business Analyst ensures that the design of the final product meets the requirement of the user.
* Participate in meetings to gather requirements and investigate alternatives. Research and evaluate relevant technologies and present alternative solutions. The Principal Software Engineer will attend meetings with subject matter experts to gain insight into the current situation and why a system solution is being requested. Knowing why a solution is being requested will help the Principal Software Engineer to determine how the solution will be designed.
* Develop functional and technical specifications. Develop, execute and review unit and integration test plans and results. The Principal Software Engineer will follow standard procedures for documentation. The standardization enforced by following the documentation procedures allows for consistency and thoroughness in design.
* Perform key role in assisting, testing, and staging of software hot-pack applications, software upgrades, new applications and releases, including the creation of unit test procedures in accordance with QA and validation guidelines. The Principal Software Engineer will follow departmental procedures for the preparation and execution of validation and change control documents. The testing ensures that the design meets the user's expectations.
* Additional responsibilities include developing interfaces using SAP standard techniques, ALE/EDI, RFC or middleware technology. Maintenance of interfaces is integral to daily operations allowing the exchange of information across applications and operating units.
* Must be familiar with creating, monitoring, and maintaining batch jobs with multiple steps and external commands to UNIX. Principal Software Engineer will use standard SAP transactions as well as UNIX kornshell scripting to perform these tasks. This will ensure that jobs are sequenced properly and dependencies are considered and will allow for recovery and troubleshooting.
