Position Title: Programmer Analyst III (Pathology)
Position Description: This individual will provide system analysis and application development for a major collaborative cancer research program called Yale SPORE. Will play a central role in the creation of a SPORE data management platform for handling clinical and genomic cancer data. Evaluate complex technical problems; participate in all stages of the system development cycle, from analysis to coding to documentation; interact with the SPORE bioinformatics directors, junior programmer analysts, researchers, and ITS staff to assess needs and deploy solutions; participate in user training; and learn about existing cancer informatics solutions such as caBIG systems and grid-solutions (https://cabig.nci.nih.gov/).
Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science or a related field and 3 years? experience in systems development, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred qualifications include a Master?s in Computer Science, experience in a biological research setting, exposure to bioinformatics system development, or handling of genomic data. Solid experience with relational databases, programming experience in Java, and a thorough understanding of object-oriented methodology are a must. Preferred experience: Web application development; knowledge of JBoss tools, JSP, and Servlets; Web interface development with JavaScript, DHTML, CSS; familiarity with Java tools such as Ant; familiarity with XML, XSLT, UML.
