QA Manager

The Technology team at HouseValues, Inc. is looking for a strong and experienced leader to manage a QA team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The right candidate will be able to motivate the team, identify and implement industry best practices, work collaboratively with cross functional groups, further QA's role and value in the organization, balance priorities, schedule resources, attend meetings, communicate status and action items, and develop employee training.

In addition, the QA Manager will maintain group involvement with other teams, work on feature specifications, develop automation and testing procedures, and facilitate team growth and effectiveness.

 

The candidate should be able to drive the QA team to successfully test in all areas: automation, manual, load, performance, longevity, functional, integration, system, etc. The QA Manager is expected to setup metrics, monitor results and proactively move QA forward with new strategies and methodologies to match new business and technical requirements.  The right candidate will also have a proven track record of establishing and adhering to QA best practices producing on-time, high quality deliverables.

 

Experience with the entire software development life cycle and common testing methodologies, strategies and technologies are required.  This position requires keen problem solving, team building, leadership, communication, organization and prioritization skills.

 

Responsibilities:

 Accurately schedule and distribute work assignments for QA team.  Prioritize testing projects from different customers and projects according to business goals and budget.Build test schedules and plans, and provide QA status and metrics when necessary.Work with development, project management, and product management to establish quality oriented software testing practices.  Collaboratively work with product development teams to determine testing tasks and scope.  Use technical knowledge to guide testing effort to ensure thorough and appropriate test coverage.Proactively communicate to management any variances to testing schedules or budget objectives well in advance.Clearly and concisely communicate status of work being done by the QA team and raise issues as they occur. Improve team work flow by streamlining processes and team projects.Develop team strategy, set and achieve key objectives and continuously evaluate/increase employee and team effectiveness.Maintain ownership of the testing phase and quality assurance and communicate known level of quality for all deliverables.Follow defined software development lifecycle and industry best practicesConduct performance reviews, assess and track KO accomplishments.

 

Qualifications:

 3 - 5 years experience managing a QA team and performing test lead duties (10+ member team). 5+ years in a testing role. Excellent verbal, written, communication and interpersonal skills required.  Strong organizational and planning skills Sound problem resolution, judgment and decision-making skills required. Experience creating and refining QA processes for a software development QA team. Understanding of multi-tiered application testing Strong database background is required. Bachelors' degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field. High pressure projects requiring overtime and weekend work at peak periods and some on-call situations
