MediaNews Group Interactive (MNGi) is seeking an Quality Assurance (QA) Manager to assist us with our online advertising initiatives.  Our group works collaboratively and each team member's input is valued. Normal Work Schedule

8:00 - 5:00 PM, Monday-Friday.  Some overtime and weekends may be required.

 

ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION

The QA Resource Manager is the direct line management of the MNGi Quality Assurance team.

 

PRINCIPAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Manages QA projects, effort estimation, resource management, and primary testing activities MNGi products.

2. Responsible for the hiring, termination, and discipline issue regarding direct reports; including ensuring that documented processes and procedures are followed by the team.

3. Responsible for drafting and maintaining all relevant job descriptions for the QA team.

4. Actively participate in the Lead Team (management team) meeting and tasks.

5. Maintain a regular schedule of QA team meetings; accompanied by frequent communication and interaction with the team on projects, releases, and MNGi related activities.

6. Review and provide QA input and approval of project requirements and project management appropriate tasks in a timely manner.

7. Responsible for conducting quarterly informal reviews and formal annual reviews for all direct reports. Responsible for making compensation adjustment recommendations as well as working with each member of the QA team to define a career development path.

 

POSITION DIMENSIONS

Number of Associates Supervised: Initially 3 may expand to 10.

Financial responsibilities: Approval of expense reports for team. Assist in the budget planning for upcoming hiring, training, capital and software needs. Responsible for the invoice resolutions for QA specific software licenses (eg. Mercury Interactive).

 

DECISION-MAKING RESPONSIBILITIES

Day to day best practices of time management. Ability to set and communicate short and long term goals and priorities. Ability to multi-task and resolve issues quickly.

 

OTHER POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

 This position spends 50% of a normal work week managing resources, participating in management initiatives, interfacing with other teams, and supporting MNGi from the QA perspective.This position spends 20% of normal workweek training and developing other Associates. This position spends 10% of a normal workweek performing technical analyses and writing reports. This position spends 20% of a normal workweek in production or maintenance-related activities.  (Maintenance relating to testing of production releases.)

 

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following:

? Infrequent Travel, but may be necessary.

? While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light weights of 10-20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.

? Occasional moderate job stress due to deadlines, downtime and number of escalated issues from off-site locations.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

The minimum education preferred to be considered for this position is:

 A technical degree in a computer related field, plus 10+ years experience in a software development test environment. College degree a plus.Minimum 5 years management experience in a technical environment.3-5 years of current software testing automation experience, preferably with Mercury Interactive Automation tools, including Test Directory Quick Test Pro, and Load Runner.Strong communication skills, written and verbal.Proven interpersonal skills.Must have a strong work ethic and be able to work independently in alignment with the MNGi goals.

Specialized or technical knowledge, credentials or licensing required for the position include: Experience testing ATG Portal applications a strong plus.Experience in testing in a C++, J2EE/Java, COM apps, including ASP, JSP, and/or SQL/DB2 development environments.Experience testing in Windows 2000, IIS, SQL/DB2 server platforms, and Linux environments.Experience in web-based browser testing, including Microsoft Internet Explorer, and Netscape Navigator (both PC and MAC). Firefox and Safari are a plus.Experience in Project Management processes, skills and techniques.Extensive experience in Microsoft Office tools.

 

The minimum number of Years and/or Months of Prior and Related experience preferred to be considered for this position is: 10+ years experience in a software development test environmentMinimum of 5 years of Management experience in a technical environment. 3-5 years experience in automated software testing.
