The primary function of the manager of the Quality Metrics group is to:
Drive the development of Standards of Measurement.
Drive the development of product/project specific metrics.
Drive the development and management of standardized test sets.
Manage the information flow associated with the quality of both the live site as well as products in development.
Work with Product Development to develop and communicate quality standards.
Drive the development of editorial tools for evaluation and manual configuration.
Drive the development of live site monitoring systems.
Manage the Editorial Team (this team focuses on standardized evaluations, special evaluations, and the generation of manual configurations.
Provide active management to the Quality Metrics Team members, focusing on their career growth, mapping skills to appropriate tasks, managing assignments/schedules, and staffing the group at an appropriate level.
The person filling this position must have good communication and organizational skills.
Responsibilities
Drive Organizational Accountability
Ensure that Engineering accomplishment are recognized by Senior Management
Ensure that Engineering, Product Management, Marketing, and IO know what is expected of them, i.e. what deliverables are expected and when they are expected
Ensure that Engineering, Product Management, Marketing, and IO are following the established process
Ensure that Product Requirement Documents meet established standards and properly communicate the requirements to Engineering
Ensure that the Engineering group is trained in the established process, identify areas within Engineering that require additional training
Ensure that problems with meeting commitments are properly addressed, either by process, organizational, or other changes
Prioritize Engineering activities by balancing company objectives with Engineering goals, available resources, and organizational efficiencies.
Ensure that the culture of the organization is driving towards a winning goal
Resolve any issues whereby accountability is unclear (either as a one-off item or through process changes)
Manage Predictability of the Organization
Drive technology and product features
Track and report schedule milestones
Operate mechanisms to ensure that a projects or groups goals and commitments are communicated to all organizations as well as to senior management
Ensure that high quality is maintained throughout all internal processes and external deliverables
Ensure that project staffing is adequate to meet project objectives
Ensure that the proper due diligence on schedules is performed such that project schedules are predictable o Normalize communications across Engineering, Product Management, Marketing, IO, Sales, and Legal.
Facilitate planning for future deliverables
Drive Efficiency into the Process
Create Long Term plans to allow processes and organizational issues to be addressed in advance of their usage
Ensure that the Capital and Expense Budgets meet the needs of the Engineering group in an efficient manner.
Ensure that the Staffing levels in Engineering meet the project needs in an efficient manner.
Work with suppliers, customers, and other third parties to facilitate communications
Develop Source Code Control Processes
Requirements:
Technical Skill Level
BS/MS in Computer Science or related field.
4+ years of relevant experience. Experience in development of software systems in the Web services environment.
Hands-on experience with most of the following technologies: C/C++, Java, JSP, ASP, PHP, HTML/XML/XSL, Perl, CVS, Windows, Linux, SQL/ODBC/JDBC
Mastery of the following tools: MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, MS Excel, Visio
Professional Skill Level
Excellent Communication, Negotiation, Teamwork, Problem Solving
The ability to have a positive impact on projects by using influence techniques.
Ability to understand the business implication of project decisions (schedule, resources, tradeoffs, etc.)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills that allow the candidate to work effectively across multiple organizations.
