Rating Technician/ Analyst

DESCRIPTIONThe Ohio Casualty Insurance Company is hiring for a Rating Technician / Analyst to service customer requests by identifying and evaluating information requirements; input and output requirements and formats; and selecting the correct programming sequences and system options; recommending a course of action; and demonstrating a working knowledge of business processes and project, unit, and department standards. Generally works under direct supervision and requires guidance throughout most phases of work. Competent to work on routine assignments with specified checkpoints in each assignment. Is learning time management, organizational, and technical skills to complete projects on time and according to specifications.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Identifies and evaluates customers? information requirements; evaluating input and output requirements and formats; identifying, evaluating, and selecting the correct options; recommending a course of action; demonstrating a basic knowledge of business processes and project, unit, and department standards.

Arranges project requirements in programming sequence by analyzing requirements; studying and demonstrating a basic understanding of application limitations and capabilities; preparing work flow charts and diagrams; interpreting, translating, and implementing system specifications that satisfy most project definitions.

Defines the business application processes, constructs code for defined algorithms, and business requirements for a variety of business applications, using tools that may be specific to each application.


Confirms application meets specifications by building and conducting basic test plans; modifying program sequences; making sure new application meets specifications and does not have any undesirable effects on existing software or hardware; demonstrating the ability to detect and correct errors.

Places business applications into production by scheduling and moving from a test environment to a production environment, generally for straightforward or routine systems changes.

Prepares customers to use system and software by demonstrating basic customer-related communication skills; assisting in the preparation of user documentation; addressing questions from the business units or help desk; assisting in training sessions when necessary.

Maintains historical records by preparing, with guidance, software development and maintenance documentation according to established standards.

Maintains client confidentiality and protects data processing operations by keeping system information confidential; properly using system resources; limiting system access as necessary.

Ensures incident and disaster recoverability by completing program and data backups; determining what software and data are needed and making them available.

Corrects system problems by researching and resolving routine problems and responding to and resolving trouble calls when designated to perform these duties.

Maintains professional and technical knowledge by maintaining a knowledge of current business and technology trends; reviewing professional publications; and attending educational workshops, seminars, and presentations as determined by management.

Develops business applications by translating project requirements into computer language using macros.REQUIREMENTSHigh school diploma or G.E.D.

Bachelor?s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline; preferred

Demonstrated business analysis skills, including understand the use of data, information and business intelligence in the decision making process

Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills

Familiarity with XML, preferred

Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills

Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to self-motivate, as demonstrated by the ability and desire to meet work demands and proactively seek work assignments

Demonstrated mathematical skills preferred

Policy rating experience preferred

Programming experience preferred

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel and Access

Demonstrated business analysis skills, including understand the use of data, information and business intelligence in the decision making process;

Familiarity with XML, preferred
