SAS Programmer/Analyst

SAS programmers work in a multidisciplinary environment in support of policy research on a wide range of issues. Programmers work closely with the research staff in creating, managing, and analyzing large and complex data files. Individuals must be highly motivated self-starters with the ability to solve data analysis problems independently. The successful candidate will also be expected to acquire an understanding of the research topic and a thorough knowledge of the data involved. Programmers work across RAND's research areas, including health policy, labor and population, education and training, criminal and civil justice, national security and military manpower. U.S. citizenship is required in order to obtain government security clearance.

Qualifications



Education - BA/BS in statistics, mathematics, operations research, quantitative social sciences, or related field required; MA/MS preferred.



Experience - Two to five years of experience in SAS database and statistical programming. Extensive experience in large administrative databases such as census or survey data, health claims, military personnel, or federal funding database.



Specialized Skills - Strong analytical and communication skills and exceptional problem-solving abilities required. Knowledge of Linux and/or Windows 2000 required. Familiarity with SQL, Excel, and web-based technology is strongly preferred.
