SATCOM Engineer  

 

Our client is seeking a strong and experienced SATCOM Engineer with 5+ years of experience in deployable satellite communications. 

 

Position Summary:

? Requires remote location deployment in support of disaster relief operations.

? Requires the ability to commission deployable satellite communication systems aspects in addition to having the ability to commission related components and subsystems.

? Requires Tier 1 and 2 evaluation, analysis and troubleshooting abilities for multiple SATCOM platforms, modems dishes, and various SATCOM sub-systems.

? Requires the ability to direct antenna system deployments as well as commissioning the system(s).

? The position will be responsible for planning, architecture, design, deployment, interconnection, provisioning and operations of the SATCOM portion of deployable cellular networks including spectrum coordination with commercial bandwidth carriers.

? The position is also responsible for supporting LMR interoperability with DoD, Federal, State and local municipalities.

? Position will be responsible for defining the metrics specification for validating and benchmarking network performance, to include the development of user acceptance tests.

? Participate in defining and sourcing software tools for network planning and optimization, data collection, post-processing and performance monitoring as well as develop documentation for new products.

? The position will also assist in the creation and training of new and existing products.

? The position also interfaces with USNORTHCOM, DoD, Federal, State and local government agencies.

? Ability to acquire a US Security clearance.

 

Knowledge and Experience Required

 

Knowledge Required:

The successful candidate should have a BSEE (or the equivalent) and at least 5 years of experience with SATCOM earth terminal and related networks, hardware and component design and development and must have experience with RF measurements in the satellite spectrum and associated test equipment. 

 

? Excellent communication, documentation skills, organization, troubleshooting and teamwork skills

? Mastery of Cisco routers, protocols, propagation tools, drive test and network statistic tools.

? Knowledge or experience with IP-based equipment and networking is a significant plus.

? Excellent experience with ViaSat SATCOM equipment.

? Excellent experience with downlink facility architecture and configuration.

? Excellent experience with satellite system configuration, installation and deployment.

? Experience with Land Mobile Radio (ACU-1000) is a plus.

? Experience with secure networks and DoD encryption a plus.

? Experience with GBS and military satellite equipment is a plus.

? Strong decision making skills that will make appropriate use of available information and data.

Experience Required:

? A minimum of five preferably eight years of SATCOM operations and maintenance experience pertaining to satellite and deployable Satellite communications.

? Engineer projects related to portable and flyaway satellite communication earth terminals and networks, including design, evaluation, development, fabrication and testing.

? Perform analysis, and design through completion, of SATCOM earth terminals and related hardware, components and parts in accordance with specifications covering C, X, Ku, Ka frequency bands. 

? Evaluate and debug SATCOM earth terminals and related hardware and components ? baseband, IF and RF

? Responsible for defining the Metrics specification for validating and benchmarking performance, to include the development of user acceptance tests.

? Participate in defining and sourcing software tools for planning and optimization, data collection, post-processing and performance monitoring.

? Participate in investigating SATCOM packages for any engineering issues.

? Facilitate resolution of bandwidth issues with carriers, and develop link budgets.

? Develop documentation for new products.

? Support training for new products.

? Technical writing experience.

 

Education

? Undergraduate Electrical Engineering degree or equivalent Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science desired, or comparable industry experience.
