Job Title:  Software Engineer 





 

Position Summary

Incumbent is competent to work on fairly complex assignments (and/or portions of larger, complex systems) and perform a full range of development activities. The incumbent generally works under deadlines and is capable of handling heavy workloads, and operating with only general supervision, although errors at this level can cause delay, expense and/or disruption. May provide occasional functional guidance to less experienced staff. The individual will be responsible for building & maintaining software modules for our enterprise Linux or UNIX based databases web-based applications as part of a high-performance team of developers. The candidate must have the ability to identify & remedy problems in the existing code base and will contribute to development of our new enterprise application.

 

Job Functions and Duties

 

1. Design, develop, and test web-based enterprise apps with relational database backend or their related modules

2. Assist other team members in maintenance of existing code base including database scripts & stored procedures

3. Review business requirements and develop prototypes

4. Design components within a global web -based app using OO methodology

5. Create technical docs such as design docs

6. Work in a team environment using a structured dev process

7. Regular communication with team on project progress, issues, and risks.

8. Define and develop application functionality and reports for internal and external customers

9. Ensure that client reporting is complete and comprehensible to the end users

10. Other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

? Must be proficient in Linux and UNIX environments as well as code version management systems

? Proficient with building applications based on relational databases (PostgreSQL and Oracle)

? Apache server with JAVA/J2EE, PERL, DHTML, HTML, XML, JavaScript

? Proven experience with application servers such as JBOSS

? Should have experience in design, development, implementation and deployment of web enabled (eCommerce/Internet/Intranet) applications (i.e. web-site design, development)

? Must be proficient in database applications and familiar with database design standards, entity-relationship model, database processing and normalization

? Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, or Engineering (preferred)

? 5 years work related experience (preferred)

? Able to lift up to 20 pounds, bend, stoop, sitting at desk and standing for extended periods of time, and to move about from building to building

? Be able to multi-task and take direction from varying levels of management
