SQL/ORACLE Database Administrator - Boston!
Our Boston area client is on the Fortune 100 List of Most Admired Companies, and is actively looking for a Microsoft SQL/Oracle Database Administrator to provide support and maintenance of the existing Microsoft SQL/Oracle RDBMS environments (development, quality assurance and production). Responsibilities
Resolve problems and answer questions related to the RDBMS and platform environment, contact vendor support when necessary, facilitate application development and client problem resolution with optimum speed and efficiency.
RDBMS performance monitoring and tuning: Closely monitor performance; identify problems and implement solutions; ensure the database is running at optimum speed and efficiency.
Install and upgrade RDBMS and related products: Keep RDBMS at current release and maintenance levels; install supporting products; provide current, stable production, quality assurance and development environments.
Reorganize database structures as needed: Automate procedures at regular intervals; use tools to reorganize or defragment database table spaces, tables, and indexes; provide efficient database environment to maximize productivity and improve performance.
Work closely with Systems Programmer ? RDBMS to create database schemas and subschemas; lead/review database designs; estimate sizes of new databases. Research and recommend optimal design criteria.
Capacity planning and reporting: Monitor file system space, database allocation, etc.; verify efficient use of disk storage; reclaim dead space; optimize space allocation and avoid out-of-space conditions.
Develop rules, procedures, and standards for the access and maintenance of shared data resources.
Review overall physical database structures for performance quality, recoverability, maintenance, and space requirement considerations.
Participate in the evaluation and recommendation of DBA tools and new DBMS technologies.
Provide the definition and development of database documentation and standards.
Conduct application transaction volume and traffic analysis, and interpret impact on database and network performance.
Experience Required
5-8 years? IT experience, a minimum of 3 years with Microsoft SQL Server is required.
1-2 years? experience with Oracle is required.
Two years' experience with SAP R/3 and BW is desired.
Proficient in SQL, creating and maintaining Stored Procedures.
Experience providing production support in a multi-RDBMS environment.
Strong analytical, problem solving and multi-tasking skills required, as well as communication and interpersonal skills and good organizational skills.
Bachelor?s degree in Computer Science OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
Salary of $95,000 to $110,000 with a generous benefits package offered.
