SQL Server DBA

Leads all database architecture, design, data analysis, and data loading for NAIS System (Nationwide Automatic Identification System). Applies in-depth database engineering principles to design and deliver effective data solutions between multiple, distinct software applications.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
? Designs logical and physical databases and/or reviews description of changes to database design to understand how changes affect physical database.
? Establishes physical database parameters. Codes database descriptions and specifies identifiers of database to database management system, or directs others in coding database descriptions.
? Specifies user access and permissions.
? Tests and corrects errors, and refines changes to database.
? Confers with co-workers to determine impact of database changes.
? Performs database tuning to increase processing performance, and closely monitors usage and storage space and influence of such on database performance.
? Runs adhoc queries and reports for users in a timely manner. Runs required monthly reports for manager and any others upon request.
? Provides level of effort estimates to manager for making changes to database for all project efforts.
? Works with Technical Writer to record all routine procedures and updates appropriate documentation as needed.
? Researches and investigates problems and develops viable solutions; reports findings / recommendations clearly and effectively to team.

The NAIS DBA is expected to have a thorough technical knowledge of his/her systems and be capable of executing independent and team tasks as assigned. He/she must be a team player and willing to interact with other people at all levels of the organization.

Required Education
Bachelors Degree Computer Science or Information Systems, Masters Degree Preferred

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
5-7+ years IT experience in similar areas
Relational database theory and practical SQL Server experience required.
Experience and knowledge of database clustering and experience with SQL Server 2000/2005 highly desirable Experience and knowledge of Windows operating systems (WIN2K, NT 4.0 and XP) necessary
