SR.SYSTEMS ENGINEER

SR. SYSTEMS ENGINEER   DESCRIPTION: The Defense Travel System has an opening for a senior systems engineer to manage and optimize the JAVA components of the application suite. Candidate will work in both Solaris and Linux environments, maintaining a large integrated system.


The candidate must have experience managing a large JAVA deployment in a production environment, with specific experience with Resin, JAVA 1.5 and Apache. Demonstrated understanding of JAVA virtual machines is required, including how multiple JVMs within a system impact each other. Specific experience profiling JVM activities is necessary for this position. Experience with XML and SOAP is required. Experience managing systems that integrate Hibernate and Spring is desired.

The candidate will monitor system resource utilization, tune the various configuration files to improve Resin and JAVA performance, and make recommendations for optimizing the application suite. The candidate will perform troubleshooting in the development, test, and production environments using a wide range of strategies, including monitoring application memory usage (using JVM tools and JProbe) and database performance (using Oracle tools and logging JDBC drivers).

The candidate will also participate in system capacity planning activities to determine how the production environment will grow.
