Position Summary

 

The security operations analyst works in the Security Operations Center and is knowledgeable in the areas of cyber security, intrusion detection systems, networking, and malicious network traffic identification.

 

This is a first-point-of-contact position for all VigilantMinds clients.

 

Detailed Duties and Responsibilities

 Works in 24x7 managed security operations center on a rotating shift, providing first level monitoring, analysis and response to information security intrusion events. Recognizes known worms/viruses based on their signatures. Differentiates false positives from true intrusion attempts. Recognizes successful intrusions and compromises through review and analysis of relevant event detail information. Alerts clients of intrusions and potential intrusions and compromises to their network infrastructure. Actively investigates the latest in security vulnerabilities, advisories, incidents, and penetration techniques and notifies clients when appropriate. Reviews periodic vulnerability scan results. Performs tasks as identified in a daily task list.

 

Requirements

 Network infrastructure and TCP/IP knowledge base required along with knowledge of current security trends. Must have good communication skills, the ability to learn, and be self-directed and independent.Experience with intrusion detection and firewall devices is a plus.One or more of the following certifications preferred:  CCNA, Linux+, MCSE, CISSP, SSCP, Security+A BS or BA degree is preferred.U.S. Citizenship.
