Security Operations Center Analyst

Responsibilities:


Works in 24x7 managed security operations center providing first level monitoring, analysis and response to information security alerts events.


Configure and operate intrusion detection systems, Filter and tune network intrusion detection sensors to eliminate false alarms.





Recognize and differentiate between, potential, successful, and unsuccessful intrusion attempts and compromises through review and analysis of relevant event detail and summary information.





Provide monitoring and levels of service as well as interpret and prioritize threats thru use of intrusion detection systems, firewalls and other boundary protection devices, and any security incident management products deployed.





Action alerts to customers of intrusions and potential intrusions and compromises to their network infrastructure, applications and operating systems.


Analyze packet level network traffic when required, utilizing common packet analysis tools and techniques.





Ensure protection of networks, systems, and applications by technical enforcement of organizational security policies, thru use of vulnerability scanning devices.


Performs tasks as identified in daily task list.


Generates end-of-shift reports for documentation and knowledge transfer to subsequent analysts on duty.


 


Required Knowledge and Experience:

5+ years experience in a Technical Service/Support/Technical Operations; 2-3 years of SOC experience strongly preferred
Core process knowledge within a service/support organization; ITIL preferred
Applicant must be proficient in TCP/IP networking
Working knowledge of Windows XP/2000 and Linux/Solaris
Knowledge of current security trends and best practices is required, including: broad and up-to-date understanding of IT security issues and technology, knowledge of anti-virus, intrusion detection/prevention, firewall and vulnerability management technology
Must have strong written and oral communication skills and be self-directed and independent
The security analyst must be able to multitask and give equal attention to a variety of functions while under pressure. Speed and accuracy are essential, as is the ability to make quick, informed decisions while facing a deadline.
A Bachelor?s degree is preferred; associates degree required
One or more of the following certification preferred: GIAC, CISSP, Network+, Linux+, Security+, MCSE, SSCP, CCNA
US CITIZENSHIP IS REQUIRED
