Senior Database Programmer - (Job# 14507)

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's mission is to find cures for children with catastrophic diseases through treatment and research.

Currently, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has an opening for a Senior Database Programmer.

The Senior Database Programmer in the Hartwell Center for Bioinformatics and Biotechnology will work very closely with other database programmers, software developers, and systems engineers to implement and support data-oriented development efforts in a very dynamic scientific research environment. Proficient in PL/SQL programming and in creating specialized database searches. Will work as an integral part of a software development team to architect, design, implement and support databases and applications that take advantage of existing infrastructure and strategies. Collaboratively develop and implement data models, implement logical database designs, and take logical backups of application schemas. Works with a Database Administrator to implement physical database designs and deploy database changes to production. Lead the development of database code to maintain data integrity. Create and maintain DDL and DML scripts for all database changes. Collaborate with application developers in application tuning and optimization. Some database tuning and administration is required. Will be responsible for programming in SQL, PL/SQL, and in the coding of reports. Will demonstrate the ability to use database server programming. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department.

The successful candidate will have the following requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field required.
Five (5) years experience in Oracle database design and development is required, must include two (2) years of experience with database administration, database design and development and/or JAVA/J2EE technologies.
Extensive experience with Oracle and at least one open source database technology (MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.)
Proficient in the following: Data Modeling and Schema Design; SQL Tuning and Performance Optimization; OLTP and OLAP concepts and techniques; and the creation of stored procedures, packages, triggers and other database objects.
Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment and writing or modifying shell scripts.
Ability to work in an evolutionary (iterative, incremental) manner.
Must be able to proactively work from visions and ideas to explore and outline decision support options.
Good problem solving skills.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Experience with Database Regression Testing preferred.
Experience working in a team/collaborative environment, working in a research/health care environment, and working with Hibernate or other O/R mapping technologies is desired.
Familiarity with J2EE technology and Software Development Processes preferred.
