Senior Date Base Administrator

Kind of Work:

This is professional data processing work in the design, development, installation, and maintenance of data base systems. The work requires a knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques of computer programming and system design, and data base structures and theories, usually gained through a combination of education, specialized training and experience. Contacts with users require skills in understanding and influencing others and are important in determining and meeting user data base requirements. The work is covered by substantially diversified procedures and specialized standards and involves a variety of differing situations requiring search for solutions or new applications within one?s known experiences. The work is performed in an office environment. Operates computers and related equipment. The physical demands are minimal. The work is performed under limited supervision where the work assignments are subject to established practices and techniques and the worker plans and organizes the work, determines priorities, and the work is reviewed, usually after the fact, in terms of quality, volume, timeliness and adherence to established practices and techniques.

Experience: (Type of work experience, minimum number of years of each)

A ten year combination of education, training and experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming, two years of which must have been in data base design and development.

 

Technical Knowledge:

? Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of computer programming and system design.

? Knowledge of computer operations, systems and procedures.

? Knowledge of computer hardware, software and data base systems.

? Knowledge of data processing flow charting techniques.

? Knowledge of data base structures and theories.

? Knowledge of current data base technologies.

? Knowledge of data analysis techniques.

? Ability to evaluate user requests and determine feasibility, cost and time required, and compatibility of new or modified systems and databases.

? Ability to consult with users to identify current operating procedures and clarify program objectives.

? Ability to identify or design technology solution and prepare written proposals including database itemization and processing flows and time and cost estimates of identified options.

? Ability to develop, structure, test, document, configure and implement databases and supporting systems.

? Ability to identify problem areas, recommend improvements, and coordinate modifications.

? Ability to debug and correct database and supporting systems

? Ability to monitor performance of databases, identify problems, and schedule preventative maintenance.

? Ability to prepare and maintain documentation.

? Ability to prepare instructions and reference materials.

? Ability to resolve operating problems and provide technical assistance and training to users.

? Ability to operate, maintain, and trouble shoot computer equipment.

? Ability to communicate effectively.
