The incumbent is involved in the selection and implementation of current and future network hardware and software and directs one or more other personnel.  S/he works under limited supervision and has the authority to modify practices in accomplishing assignments.  An incumbent provides technical guidance to personnel inside or outside the department in resolving network problems.  Contact with users and/or outside vendors is required to assist in the development and maintenance of the network.  Position requires frequent after-hours support.

 

This job requires a B.S. in Computer Science, or related discipline, or equivalent job experience and three to six (3-6) years of experience with large scale data/voice networks and a proven history of leadership and technical ability.  The incumbent must have in-depth knowledge of local area network operating systems and topologies, communication protocols, data center operations and platform interconnectivity experience.  Strong organizational and communications skills are also required.  In addition, the incumbent must possess good human relations skills to work closely with and maintain a working relationship with other departments in order to accomplish common goals.  The incumbent must be trained in netware administration.  Certification: CNE, CNA or equivalent desirable.  Equipment used to perform tasks for this position are cable testers, network analysis tools (sniffer).
