Mercer HR Services currently has an opening for a Software Developer in the Houston, TX office. The Software Developer is responsible for creating object-oriented applications in support of Mercer's development goals. The candidate will be responsible for application development, maintenance, and support for Benefits Workstation Rules Engine & Interactive Debugger systems. Communication skills (written, verbal, and listening) also play an important part of this job. The candidate must be able to clearly understand and define technical issues with end users, system support staff, and other developers.
To fulfill this role, the Software Developer will:
Work with business and systems teams in support of business goals to develop solutions using C, C++, PowerBuilder, Visual Basic 6, ActiveX, COM, .NET and other technologies Support an existing enterprise-level application written in C, C++, PowerBuilder, VB6/COM Platform – resolve Production issues rapidly and address enhancement requests Provide the same high level of expertise and enthusiasm in all development efforts regardless of the solution’s programming language (C, C++, PowerBuilder, Visual Basic 6 or C#) or its development platform (COM or .Net Framework). Interact with the user community on system and requirement issues and to coordinate activities. Develop testing criteria for all components and conduct system testing. Work with limited supervision while providing constant feedback on project status and deadlines. Identify software defects and ensure quality. Function as part of a highly interactive team. Provide continual input on the performance of the software the unit maintains and suggest technological enhancements.
BS in computer science or related technology degree is preferred Minimum of 6 years of experience with low-level C/C++ development Minimum of 1 year of experience with Microsoft .NET development (C# preferred) Minimum of 1 year of experience in COM and Active X programming environment with Visual Basic 6.0 Understanding low-level memory management techniques Experience in DLL development using C/C++ and intra language nuances Knowledge of C/C++ pointers and pointer casting is beneficial Experience authoring and interpreting C style MACROS Experience in using Standard Template Libraries (STLs), Threading, Win32 programming, etc. Experience with Oracle required Experience using Dev Partner Studio is preferred Good communication, customer service, research, organization, decision-making, listening and detail-oriented analytical skills
