Senior Systems Developer - ETL

Overview
The Knowledge Management organization is responsible for providing the data and information that fuels BGI's innovation and performance. The key clients of this group span the entire investment process, beginning with research, extending to portfolio management and operations.

The role of the Product Development IT team within Knowledge Management is to create data products that directly support BGI's quantitative research strategies. Data products are the aggregation of historical, time-series data from multiple market data sources, delivered to end-users in a data warehouse. In order to support the time-to-market demands and innovative nature of the business, we employ a rapid development methodology to produce both tactical and strategic solutions.

We are seeking talented individuals who have a proven track record in building complex data warehouses leveraging modern ETL techniques. Successful candidates must be passionate about using technology as a means to solve business problems and be able to form and cultivate relationships with the business.



Responsibilities
The Informatica ETL developer will be responsible for the analysis, design, coding, testing, troubleshooting and implementation of ETL processes for Knowledge Management initiatives. Through coordination with a data architect and data modeler, the developer will implement physical data models and resolve data integration challenges through innovative ETL design in a near, real-time environment. This will include high-performance sorting and loading techniques that may cross the ETL platform into the database or Unix OS.

Other duties include: Create, update and maintain ETL technical documentation. Shell scripting/PERL scripting. DB specific coding – stored procedures, advanced SQL techniques. Physical database modeling focusing on proper object and index structures. End-to-end performance tuning: ETL, Database, UNIX.



Requirements
Successful candidates will have: B.S. (or equivalent) in Computer Science or Mathematics. Proven track record in delivering high-volume, multi-terabyte data warehousing initiatives. Experience in the financial services domain, preferably investment management. Knowledge of the equity domain, including company fundamentals, earning/estimates, etc. Excellent analytic and problem solving skills. Demonstrated ability to deliver solutions. Strong initiative and a thirst for knowledge. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Strong business process modeling skills. Strong data warehousing development experience.

Technical skills required include: 6+ years in software development Informatica ETL (4+ years with at least 2 years with version 7.x) SQL (4+ years) Oracle, Teradata, Netezza, DB2 or Sybase IQ (4+ years) PERL (2+ years) UNIX Shell Scripting (4+ years)

Candidates with the following skills will have a distinct advantage: Experience with Java and/or C++. Experience working with Data Modeling tools (e.g. E/R Studio, ERwin, etc.) Experience working with BI Tools (MicroStrategy, Hyperion, Business Objects, etc.)
