Senior Systems Engineer, LDAP/Active Directory/Core Middleware
The University of Notre Dame, one of the nation?s top 20 institutions of higher learning, is accepting applications for a Senior Systems Engineer within the Office of Information Technologies. This position provides primary application support for various directory and authentication services. Close to 50% of this position is devoted to the team's operational needs with account generation, help desk cases, and special requests. As a member of the Core Middleware team, this engineer is responsible for a variety of duties including:
- Manage the university LDAP, Active Directory, Kerberos, and Radius systems.
- Maintain and safeguard institutional person data within the Enterprise Directory Service (EDS).
- Provide account generation, password synchronization, authentication, and authorization services.
- Integrate with other systems including SCT Banner (HR and student data), email, web services and DNS.
- Develop complex system interface and end user applications using HTML, C#, Java, Python, and related technologies.
- Provide 2nd level client support for supported services.
This position will assist in the development of an 'architectural vision' for the Core Middleware Group, while developing new projects.
Duties include providing detailed systems documentation as well as following departmental standards for building and maintaining computer systems. These standards include the areas of security, system hardening, change control, backup/recovery, and system monitoring.
While the majority of work is performed during normal business hours, some evening and weekend work is required to maintain systems and minimize disruptions of service. The Engineer maintains an 'on call' support status in the event of an unscheduled service outage.
The engineer collaborates with other technical staff to define and install appropriate technical solutions for the needs of the University as defined by senior OIT management.
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field. Successful candidates will be proficient at installing, maintaining, provisioning, and integrating various LDAP servers including Sun directory and Microsoft Active Directory. Three to five years or more experience modeling directory services in a large complex organization is required with emphasis on security and privacy methodologies to safeguard institutional and personal information. As a key service provider to the University, the candidate must exhibit strong interpersonal communication, user support, and documentation skills. Scripting and programming experience in Perl, Java, C, HTML and related technologies is required.
Master's degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
