Senior Systems and Applications Administrator

An opportunity exists in Mesa, AZ for a Senior-level Systems and Applications Administrator (JAVA, Linux and Solaris). The production services organization manages the systems which support PDL and PSS's ASP delivered solutions. Position reports into local Production Services Manager. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

? An infrastructure liaison for development projects with responsibility for smooth delivery of internal software applications into staging and production environments

? Assist with troubleshooting and problem resolution as well as providing second level support for internal software applications

? Perform software installations and upgrades to operating systems, layered software packages, and internal applications

? Schedule installations and upgrades and maintain them in accordance with established IT policies and procedures

? Assist in the creation and implementation of standards and best practices

? Tomcat, Apache, WebLogic, Linux (Redhat/Fedora) and Solaris administration

? Monitoring and tuning systems to achieve optimum performance levels

? Installation and configuration of new environments

? Capacity planning, problem isolation

? Participates in the on-call rotation to support systems after hours and on weekends

Experience - External:

? B.S. Computer Science or Engineering from four-year college or university or equivalent experience

? 5+ years experience in Linux and Solaris system administration in a corporate environment

? 3+ years experience in troubleshooting and support of Java applications

? 3+ years experience in Apache and Tomcat, Weblogic, and other servlet containers

? BEA WebLogic server architecture and installations on Linux, Windows and Sun Solaris, AS level patching, AS server configuration, application deployment, deployment support

? BEA WebLogic Application server, understanding of issues related to BEA WL-, Apache and IIS

? System design experience with BEA WebLogic Server Version 6 from a system administrator perspective Java / Java script / shell script programming languages preferred

? Working in a Java development environment a must

? Expert knowledge, understanding, and *experience* using BEA WebLogic Server 8.1 (required)

? Expert understanding of distributed JAVA application architectures (required)

? Competence in understanding of socket based communications and protocols (a plus)

? Experience with Apache 2.x virtual hosting

? Experience with system hardware installation (memory, CPUs, HBAs, etc.)

? Solid shell scripting (a must)/Perl experience (preferred)

? Strong technical knowledge of current hardware, protocols, and standards

? Strong analytical skills and effective interpersonal communication skills

? Strong customer focus

? Ability to work with minimal supervision

? Working knowledge of various networking protocols (TCP/IP, FTP, NFS, HTTP, etc)

? Ability to document and implement system administration process/standards within realm of responsibility

? 24x7 production operations experience is important

? Exposure to n-tier application environments (J2EE) is important

? Exposure to Configuration Management systems (CVS, Rational, etc) is a plus

? Experience with ORACLE, MS SQL, MySQL, Postgres, Nagios, Foglight, SSL, is a plus

? Experience in advanced UNIX administration, including:

Ability to tune the kernel

Ability to build and provision file systems

Ability to manage and configure network interfaces (physical/virtual)

Ability to install packages

Ability to administer systems security

? Problem isolation and analysis skills in the following environments:
