Senior Technology Specialist, ETL DB2/SQL/UDB

Job Summary

This is a DB2/SQL/UDB/ETL Developer position in the database services group to work on support, development and maintenance of data conversion and the data warehouse and associated projects. This position will entail responsibilities involving ETL tasks throughout the ETL processes, providing direction to the business users as well as the internal system users in regards to query development and performance utilizing the data warehouse, and production support. Attend code reviews to assure compliance. Activities will involve participating in business requirements and project scope definition, assisting project management and development using Informatica and SQL. Will need to provide direction on best source for business need at hand and guidance for all reporting needs. Will also include hands on mentoring and guidance, and knowledge transfer. May need to conduct user meetings and reviews.

Knowledge, Skills and Education Required
3-5 years hands on Database development in DB2/UDB and SQL Server. Would consider 3+ years experience in DB2/UDB development with 1+ years experience in SQL Server development. Unix experience preferably AIX. 3-5 years ETL design, development - experience in Informatica (7.x preferred) Experience with ETL development of large scale data warehouses (terabyte), incremental updates and multiple internal and external sources. Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills On the job experience in data warehouse and datamart development Experience using a development methodology, including project planning and estimating. Experience with database modeling techniques, preferably Star Schema. Experience in analyzing, collecting and producing business requirements. Experience in producing detailed technical specs. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Strategic and tactical thinking capabilities. Experience with knowledge transfer, transition of systems and mentoring Proven leadership and collaborative skills. Experience with database modeling techniques, preferably Star Schema Experience working with very large scale databases An understanding of proper indexing Experience tuning queries Experience writing and tuning stored procedures Experience with adherence to a Software Development Methodology Ability to handle multiple projects at a time Must be a team player



Duties and Responsibilities Transfer knowledge and responsibility from existing consultant team. Analyze problems and propose, present and propagate solutions or practices to meet architectural challenges Identify, assess, and evaluate technologies, products, and tools for building enterprise architecture services Understand, analyze, re-factor and enhance existing code & processes Participating in integration and performance testing Mentor team members & business users Production On Call Responsibility 24/7 User level familiarity with version control Development responsibilities include: data modeling and analysis, schema design, database object creations (tables, stored-procedures, triggers, functions, and jobs. Etc..).? Responsible for user direction/support on all data queries Designs new database schemata, or reviews and revises existing tables and indexing strategies to improve storage efficiency and access Responsible for performance tuning assistance on all data pull/queries Part of the job responsibilities for this position is that they must be able to pro-actively identify issues and coordinate resolutions while providing project management and software engineering process expertise. Provides assistance to programmers during development, responding to questions and providing guidance when necessary.


Other highly valued skills would include: Knowledge of the Property and Casualty Insurance industry is a big plus Migration experience utilizing ETL tools SQL and/or DB2/UDB knowledge and stored procedures Experience in designing and developing BI objects and Data Mining Knowledge of Perl Knowledge of balancing and Control and the importance of implementing them.
