Software Quality Assurance Specialist

FUNCTION:
Responsible for the creation, setup, execution, validation, and reporting of Software Quality Assurance (SQA) testing specific to assigned Information Services development projects. Using standard concepts, practices, and procedures, ensure that new or enhanced software applications meet or exceed the quality standards established for the product?s functionality, usability and performance prior to its release. Mentor/train other SQA Specialists as needed.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Documentation:
? Participate in design reviews to understand intent of software.
? Evaluate documentation for effectiveness and compliance with the established process.
? Understand and develop test scripts and test cases from functional specifications according to established standards and procedures.
Software Testing:
? Execute manual and automated tests to ensure that software meets established quality standards.
? Record and track defects using a defect tracking tool and process.
? Hold regular anomaly review meetings with developers, reporting anomalies and providing feedback to ensure timely resolution of open issues.
? Identify resources needed for testing and establish test system environments.
Process:
? Strong understanding of SQA methodology.
? Monitor adherence to SQA methods and standards.
? Provide feedback on the quality assurance process and make enhancement recommendations.

? Perform additional responsibilities as requested.
REQUISITE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
? Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems preferred and/or
three (3) years of SQA experience with a working knowledge of quality assurance methodologies and ability to create software test documents and perform standard SQA acceptance testing.
? AS/400 OS and SQL experience a plus.
? Java/Windows GUI experience a plus.
? PVCS Version Manager experience a plus.
? Working knowledge of SilkTest and Blue Express a plus.
? Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Word, spreadsheet applications and databases.
? Experience in documentation development and software testing, including Web testing, Usability, Load and Performance testing.
? Understanding of state-of-the-art SQA methodologies and technologies, and the ability to tailor these approaches as appropriate to the situation.
? Ability to mentor/train SQA Specialists in writing test cases and accomplishing test objectives.
? Must be able to work independently or in a team environment.
? Must be able to handle multiple tasks and switch priorities effectively.
? Attention to detail and accuracy is critical.
? Ability to apply visual, comprehension, strong interpersonal, effective listening, problem-solving, planning, prioritizing, organization and customer/employee relations skills in the performance of all essential job functions.
? Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with or without the use of interpretive devices.
