Sr. Applications Support Analyst

The Senior Application Support Analyst will review, analyze, and evaluate SHRM?s business systems and user needs. Implements systems and procedures to parallel overall business strategies.  Documents systems and procedures and provides user training and support.

 

Manages and maintains SHRM applications to ensure security, availability, accuracy, efficiency and integrity. Makes recommendations concerning the use of applications for special projects and informational requirements. Maintains a current knowledge of application concepts and SHRM business operations and goals in order to guide management decisions. 

 

Manages multiple projects while concurrently fulfilling on-going application support and maintenance responsibilities.  Project types may include software selection and implementation, application upgrade, application modification, and business process improvement.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Provides first-class customer and end-user support on all matters related to IT services including rotating IT help desk support and in-depth support of specified applications, processes and/or departments.  Possesses general knowledge of SHRM applications and business processes and expert knowledge of a specified subset of applications and processes.

 

Works directly with the user community to identify, define and investigate process and/or application changes that facilitate the support of the organization?s business through the effective use of information technology. Writes detailed descriptions of user needs, program functions, and steps required to develop, implement, or modify applications or processes.

 

Works with internal and external technical resources to implement approved changes.  May lead the selection of vendors and/or application systems.  Supervises vendor modifications to software applications to satisfy existing and planned user requirements in support of critical business objectives.

 

Works closely with IT staff and users to maintain the quality of SHRM data.  Uses all available sources of information and creates queries as needed to identify system or procedural problems. Identifies, corrects, and documents deficiencies to minimize reoccurrence of problems.

 

Collaborates with other analysts to ensure system and procedural changes have the minimum impact on other application systems. 

 

Provides guidance to others in the use of assigned applications including training, user support, instructing and supporting other IT staff, and user procedure development.  Proposes expanded or improved uses of application capabilities.  Leads and participates in SHRM internal user groups and committees for application systems.

 

Contributes to IT documentation on the contents and usage of applications. Documentation may include user manuals, user process maps, data dictionaries, data flow diagrams, and systems related information.

 

Monitors maintenance contracts, upgrades and service packs for specified applications.  Manages the installation of upgrades and service packs in collaboration with Network Support, user departments, vendors, and other Application Support Analysts.

 

Manages projects in collaboration with user community stakeholders.  Supports user departments in the development of project plans and documentation such as business case, project charter, schedule, change control procedure, and transition plan.

 

Maintains close relationships with vendors and provides a communication channel between end users and vendors in addition to providing first tier support and administration for assigned applications.

 

Maintains technical proficiency through professional development, user groups and peer interaction.

 

Attends training seminars, workshops and other meetings on behalf of IT department.

 

Provides conference support as required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 

B.S. degree in computer science or information management systems or equivalent demonstrated work experience.

 

Minimum 7 years experience as an information systems analyst performing the duties listed in this job description.  Some Association experience preferred.

 

Minimum 4 years experience managing information system projects.

 

Good verbal and written skills required.
