Sr. IP Network Operations Engineer

This is a position in the Comcast operations team that supports the converged networks built throughout the nation. The supported services on this converged network include video, voice and data.

Major Duties:

Provide technical expertise in support of the operation of Comcasts national TCP/IP public broadband network.
Serve as the interface between Network Design and Tier-3 (NOC) operations organizations.
Review the scheduled changes for technical accuracy recommending changes to support operational guidelines.
Define operational and support requirements for new network related technologies and products.
Support new technology and product introduction to the production environment through configuration, deployment, testing, and support procedures validation.
Troubleshoot complex network related problems escalated from the NOC and other organizations within the company.
Analyze chronic network related problems to isolate root cause then recommend and implement approved solutions.
Analyze NOC technical procedures and make process improvement recommendations.
Participate in an on-call rotation roster.
Carry a cell phone 7x24.
Limited travel and off-hours support may be requested.
Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned.
Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance.

Qualifications

Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering. (Significant experience and advanced industry certifications may be acceptable in lieu of education)

Routing and Switching CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) or equivalent work experience.

Five years of detailed hands-on troubleshooting of complex large scale TCP/IP networks with a minimum of two years in an ISP like environment.

Demonstrated advanced understanding of BGP and OSPF.

Understanding of other protocols including SNMP, RIP, ISIS, etc.

Experience in lower level protocols including Frame Relay, SONET, Ethernet, etc.

Experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco Routers and Switches (12000, 7600, 6500, 7200, 3500 series).

Experience with CatOS is a plus.

Experience with network security devices and techniques including firewalls, access list configuration, and network traffic analyzers.

Familiarity with UNIX and LINUX operating systems and with the ability to code scripts preferred.

Familiarity with DHCP, DNS, and monitoring tools.

Proven analytical problem solving skills.

Ability to work in a team or individual contributor role.

Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Be able to handle conference calls in both a leadership and contributor role.

Ability to work in high stress situations.

Experience with DSCP, Quality of Service and Multicast.

Ability to support VoIP products.

Experience in DOCSIS and IPv6 a plus.

Experience in design of large scale networks with high availability metrics.

Ability to train and or mentor others on current work technologies.

Be able to handle conference calls in both a leadership and contributor role.
