Sr. Linux Administrator
Job description: My client is looking for a Sr. Linux Administrator with extensive hands on experience. Position is in NYC but requires 80% travel in North east region.
Responsibilities:
* Implementations of RHEL, Cluster Suite, Cluster File system, EMC Storage (Symmetric/Clariion), App Server in large enterprise production environments. Based on pre-designed offerings or customer specification.
* Work with client to define, create and test custom Enterprise Linux builds that include all the necessary Linux kernels, hardware drivers, software packages, and tools required to meet procedural and technical dependencies in client's IT
environment
* Define and test proper network, storage (SAN,NAS,NFS), security,and different system(s) configurations.
* Understand client requirements, lead analysis and design phase, create design documentation, offer advice based on prior experience
* Recommend open source alternatives to proprietary tools
* Integrate Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems with different directories (RHDS, Netscape, MS AD, LDAP/OpenLDAP, NIS/NIS+), system monitoring tools, SAN storage networks, backup software, and other management tools
* Setup and test bare-metal provisioning using technologies such as PXE, and other commercial or open source provisioning tools.
* Setup and test Kickstart servers, RHN Satellite and Proxy Servers, Red Hat Cluster Suite, Red Hat Application Server, and other open source technologies
* Use experience and knowledge base to build novel solutions using combinations of technologies and processes to solve business problems.
* Understand business drivers behind various subsystems, overall IT business strategy
* Ability to coordinate multiple vendors/partners on a project
MUST HAVE:
Systems: must have professional experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux system administration, preferably with some Unix (Solaris/AIX/HPUX).
* Unix or Linux system configuration and administration: networking, security, kernel modules, open source and proprietary software tools for monitoring and management, file systems, SAN storage, LDAP and Kerberos integration
* Ability to compile Linux kernels and modules
* Standard analysis and design methodologies and tools
* Experienced with complex packaging and using of RPM
* Strong scripting skills (e.g. bash, ksh, python, perl) .. Perl and Bash are the most important.
* Good with high availability clusters and cluster file systems (familiarity with, ability to install, tune, test, etc.). GFS is a plus.
* Virtualization platforms is a plus (Vmware ESX/GSX or Xen)
* Diagnose different OS subsystem, identify bottlenecks, and different subsystems tuning. Ability to tune application and/or kernel to achieve optimal performance.
* Excellent organization and documentation skills
* strong communication skills-- able to give presentations to technical staff, present deliverables to management
* ability to mentor and lead teams of client's more experienced IT staff
* Back up recommendations with rationale, incorporating case studies, benchmarks, other data where available
Software:
* Experience using source version control tools and source code repositories
* Some understanding of compiler theory and processor architecture * enough to be able to identify problems with computational precision, performance optimization
* Experience using 3rd party libraries, and ability to solve dependencies
* Experience using a variety of development tools (GCC, various IDEs, CVS, Rational Suite)
* Connected systems: Ability to configure/integrate with a wide range of subsystems.
Salary is 100K + bonus for the right profile
