Sr. Software Engineer


GENERAL SUMMARY
Ensures that EMC products are serviceable and that internal organizations are prepared to support new products at the time of introduction and throughout the product lifecycle. Ensures customer service readiness through product testing, requirement definition, knowledge transfer, and direct contact with other customer service organizations, including but not limited to: Engineering, Professional Services, and Training. Develops strong knowledge of organization''s mission and strategy and applies to daily activities. Interfaces with other Customer Service organizations, Engineering, and Training. Generally focuses on multiple products or key technical components.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities



Defines and drives definition of service requirements for multiple product components or key technical components.

In addition, develops a Product Support Plan and input of service requirements for Product Definition Statements.

Ensures EMC products are serviceable; provides built-in service tools, diagnostic features, and customer documentation specific to the use and support of all assigned new products.

Validates product serviceability and determines diagnostic tool requirements, provides
specifications to engineering as appropriate. I

Identifies areas that affect customer service readiness for new and existing products.

Identifies Field Replaceable Units (FRUs) and defines stocking strategies in support of new product introduction.

Reviews and validates media, installation, configuration guides, user guides, internal documentation, release notes and revision tracking for assigned products

Develops service procedures and supporting documentation including but not limited to: installation information, update procedures, debug guides, service restore procedures and repair procedures.

Participates in the product verification testing.

Ensures customers can use products with minimal impact on Global Services.

Ensures that Global Services can service products.

Responsible for the transfer of moderately complex-to-complex technical product knowledge within Global Services and Engineering.

Acts as Subject Matter Expert, mentor and technical consultant as appropriate for new product introduction, as well as assigned products or key technical components.

Reviews training needs and plans. Prepares and delivers training to appropriate support organization, including specialized product training.

Analyzes and communicates field failures to engineering.

Utilizes information gained from field failures to drive continuous improvement in the quality of products and to lower service costs.

Works jointly with Technical Support to perform RCA (Root Cause Analysis) of reported problems.

Works jointly with Technical Support and the field to reproduce customer problems and to identify product and service deficiencies. Performs special tasks as assigned.

The successful candidate must demonstrate extensive knowledge of Perl programming, specifically in the areas of regular expressions, pattern matching, and file I/O.

Working knowledge of shell programming in Unix environments as well as familiarity with structured programming languages such as C, C++, Java., Python.

Apache web server running on Linux and IIS running on Windows

PHP, HTML and the XML format for structuring information

Must have a deep knowledge of Database technology such as MSSQL or Oracle

Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills, organizational, interpersonal communication and presentation skills

Must have the ability to work independently and in a team environment, with minimal supervision

should demonstrate specific knowledge of EMC products.
