Senior Software Developer (#010758).

Description
The Solar Observatories Group at Stanford needs an accomplished senior software developer to support the development of the Joint Science Operations Center for NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). SDO, a five-year mission, will be launched in 2008 to provide comprehensive understanding of the Sun. The Joint Science Operations Center (JSOC) will process, archive, and distribute the data observed by the Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager and the Atmospheric Imaging Array instruments on SDO. The JSOC processing system is characterized as a pipeline, processing data files received each minute into a few dozen data products which will be made available to the science community in datasets spanning various intervals of seconds to years. JSOC will process 1.4 TB each day into a variety of scientific data products. The science data product and analysis modules will be a combination of new development, code adapted from an earlier program, and code developed by the science Co-Investigator team. This will be done in collaboration with the originating Co-Investigator to develop specifications of the pipeline modules and to determine appropriate numerical techniques to employ. The pipeline infrastructure is new and will require further development and testing. The JSOC team consists of 3 to 4 software developers working closely with the local science team. The senior developer will report directly to the Principal Investigator. Requirements: Minimum of 5-7 years of extensive experience in scientific software development, programming in the Unix/Linux environment, including a high level of proficiency in C, is required. Knowledge of numerical algorithms, Fortran, Matlab, IDL (Interactive Data Language), database design/implementation and SQL, web programming, High Performance Computing clusters is desired. Advanced degree, or equivalent experience, in Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or other physical science is required.
