System Administrator II

JOB SUMMARY

The Systems Administrator will act as a member of the operational and system support team. This team member will interface directly with other Information Technology team members and customers regarding ongoing technical issues, the configuration, implementation, and maintenance of various technologies managed by Information Technology.  This includes hardware, OS, upgrading, patching, virus protection and the ensuring of system security and integrity.  The team member must demonstrate strong teamwork, excellent customer service, communication, problem solving, organizational and documentation skills in addition to meeting the criteria listed below:

 

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES


? Helps manage a UNIX environment with platforms specific to SUN Solaris, IBM AIX, and Red Hat Linux.

? Administers a Legato Networker Backup and Recovery environment consisting of (3) StorageTek enterprise class libraries.

? Support servers and systems through software, hardware diagnostics and day to day operational work

? Strong hardware and software troubleshooting and diagnostic skills are essential

? Monitor, evaluate, and prevent security and virus related issues

? Monitors, plans, documents and coordinates the distribution of server software and service packs.

? As part of a team, makes recommendations for new equipment and services to purchase  

? Perform on-site and remote technical support including but not limited to, 1st thru 2nd level support.

? Assist in the organization and inventory of all hardware and software resources.

? Maintains excellent communication with the IT Manager on all tasks and projects.

? Creates and maintains good technical documentation.

? Provides emergency on-call support on a rotating schedule. (Must be available for off-hour support including weekend work during a scheduled monthly maintenance window).

? Automate routine administrative tasks through the use of utility script development, and application scripting technologies

? Receives questions by phone or e-mail and resolves problems and gives information to callers.

? Acts as a liaison among departmental, administrative, and affiliated user groups.

? Participates in capacity planning, system installations, upgrades, and other maintenance activities for enterprise and departmental systems. 

? Develops and maintains effective working relations with users, vendors, and other department personnel. Performs other duties as requiredMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:

?  Required: Bachelor's degree in Management Information Systems or Computer Science or equivalent technical work experience.Experience:

?  Required: At least 3 years hands-on experience as a System Administrator in an enterprise UNIX environment, preferably Solaris or AIX.

?  Required: At least 2 years hands-on experience building and managing server class systems

?  Plus: Knowledge of programming principles and command of VBscript, PERL and/or Windows shell scripting

?  Plus: Administrative and working knowledge of Linux including Red Hat and/or Suse Server based operating systems

Skills:



? Strong capabilities and experience in securing UNIX based systems.

? Strong capabilities and experience in administering Legato?s Networker for Backup & Recovery.

? Knowledge of storage technologies such as RAID, Snapshots, Mailbox Recovery, SAN and NAS a plus.

? Solid understanding of a 24x7 high availability mission-critical server infrastructure.

? Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

? Must be self-motivated and highly professional with exceptional verbal and written communications skills

? Must be able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

? Ability to manage multiple and often conflicting tasks

? Knowledge of systems and network management utilities. Ability to foster teamwork and negotiations
