System Support Specialist

The Systems Support Specialist will assist in the configuration, implementation, and maintenance of various technologies managed by the Information Technology department. This includes hardware, OS, upgrading, patching, security and virus protection for both desktops and servers.

 

Works under the direction of the Director of Information Technology; this position requires excellent customer service, organizational and documentation skills to support administrative personnel, department supervisors, and staff. This position requires the ability to function successfully in both team and independent work environments.

 

Must be available for off-hour emergency support.

 

The Systems Support Specialist will play an integral role in the success of the group. Specifically s/he will be responsible for:

 Ability to work as a member of a small team and take initiative on projects.Demonstrates ability to manage multiple projects throughout the complete lifecycle.Multitasking: Sets priorities; quickly zeros in on the critical few and puts the trivial many aside: can juggle numerous tasks and priorities while maintaining productive flow of work; is flexible and adaptable.Supported servers are Windows 2003, Windows 2000.Supported desktops are Windows XP professional. Basic knowledge of Windows versions prior to XP is beneficial.Attention to detail: produces consistently accurate work, even when under pressure.Taking Direction: practices attentive and active listeningAbility to interface with various vendors to solve problems as they arise.Technical learning: picks up on technical things quickly; can learn new skills and knowledge related to current hardware or software being supported.Communication: able to communicate clearly and succinctly in a variety of settings and styles.Familiar with application and dial-in/ VPN support. Asset inventory and license managementAssist in creation and maintenance of policy and procedures including documentation of said policies and proceduresBackup tape management and backup best practices deployment.Familiarity with network security, anti-virus softwareMust be available for off-hour emergency support

 REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

 Broad range of desktop knowledge including support experience in the following areas: Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/2003; Microsoft Office Suite; Microsoft Active Directory; and CitrixMicrosoft Certifications preferred3+ years work experienceDESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 Experience with Symantec Antivirus Corporate or other enterprise antivirus application Experience with networking hardware; VPN, firewall, managed switches Experience with disaster recovery systems; backup and tape management using Veritas Backup Exec. . Hardware & software troubleshooting skills. Maintains quality customer service skills, a strong work ethic, and is a team player with the ability to work well independently. Must possess above average documentation skills, organization skills, excellent communication skills, and can demonstrate problem solving skills. Considered an out of the box thinker and displays a willingness to learn.
