Systems Developer / Systems Admin
This position is responsible for providing software development and administration support for a mid-size (5,000 users) Linux and Solaris infrastructure at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Washington, DC.
Projects will include system administration tasks, web application development, systems programming, and infrastructure design. The candidate will contribute to both the systems administration and web development teams, and must interact well with both colleagues and users.
Experience Requirements:
Candidates are preferred to have a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or Math with 3-10 years of work experience.
We are looking for the following skills:
*Strong background in Linux and Solaris system administration with systems programming in shell, Perl, and C.
*Extensive experience designing, providing, and supporting network services including LDAP (Sun Java Enterprise Directory Server preferred) and web (Apache strongly preferred).
*Experience with Kerberos authentication, AFS administration, and backup server software (Veritas NetBackup) a plus.
*Programming experience in a collaborative environment; source code management under CVS or Subversion a plus. Emphasis on secure programming techniques and processes a plus.
*Web application development under Apache on UNIX platform using Perl Mod-Perl experience strongly preferred. Object-oriented Perl, Python, and PHP experience a plus.
*Strong working knowledge of HTML and CSS; exposure to XML, AJAX, and SOAP a plus
