IT staffing is one of Xperts primary services. Currently, Xperts is interviewing Technical IT Directors for our client sites in Charlottesville, VA.
Director of Information Technology (IT) Operations will contribute to the client's growth and market leadership and bring best practices to their IT Operations.
The Director of IT Operations will be responsible for the organization, planning and execution of initiatives and resources on the operations side of Information Technology for the company with customers and staff around the globe. IT Operations include the maintenance, build-out, monitoring and support of a 24 x 7 production Internet ASP, corporate IT operations, voice communications and security systems. Their production systems are considered mission critical applications by their customers and maintaining performance and reliability of these systems is a core element of this role.
Reporting to this Director is a team of systems administrators, network engineers and help desk personnel. This position reports directly to the CTO and is responsible for attainment of availability, security, data integrity, performance, monitoring, asset management, procurement and capacity planning for all aspects of IT Operations.
The duties of the IT Operations Director include the analysis, planning, design, budgeting, resource allocation and implementation of complex local and wide-area networks that meet the requirements set forth by management. The Director will develop, document, maintain and monitor standard operating procedures and performance measures as they apply to IT Operations. Management of corporate IT infrastructure includes help desk activities, tracking and troubleshooting laptop and desktop workstations for users, Internet connectivity, WAN and LAN maintenance, virus protection, license tracking, inventory management, phone system, power management and security. In addition to systems and network technology experience, this position will require demonstrated managerial acumen and leadership capability in a demanding and entrepreneurial growth environment. Managerial competencies include effective inter-personal communications, strategic and tactical technology planning, thoughtful analysis and proposal development, employee supervision and personnel management, executive reporting, effective and ethical judgment, customer service orientation, priority handling, costing and project management.
Specific experience of five (5) years or more required in the management of activities required to run the day-to-day operations of a highly available ASP in a distributed environment to include: backup / data integrity, security, disaster recovery, systems monitoring, systems testing, change control, documentation, maintenance procedures, performance tuning, incident and issue management and reporting, on-call and response team coverage, production triage, production and QA systems configuration management, file system management, network and bandwidth management, power management, space management, supplier management, and executive reporting. The above activities are also included in the set of responsibilities of the IT Operations Director.
The technology background for qualified candidates must include more than seven (7) years of hands-on experience in the management activities listed above in addition to a majority of the following specific technologies: UNIX based operating systems, Web servers, Web Application servers, Database servers, Email servers, Reporting servers, backup systems, network systems, file systems and FTP server configuration. Apache, BEA WebLogic, JBoss, DB2, Crystal Decisions, OpenAFS, EMC, Veritas, Nagios, OpenView, OpenAFS, NFS, RFS, PHP, MySQL, J2EE, Linux, Mac OS X, Windows Server, Overland, TCP/IP, Cisco network gear (routers, firewalls, load balancing, enterprise switch, etc.), network administrative programming (Tk, PERL, bash, shell, etc.), Kerberos / LDAP.
Qualified candidates will have at least 10 years of experience and hold a Bachelors degree in a computer science / engineering or related field with Master's degree preferred.
****This is a technical, hands-on IT Director position.
