Technical Writer II
Technical Writer II Description: Essential Functions: Create technical documentation associated with design, coding, unit test, integration and software testing efforts for a complex distributed embedded system using CMMI Level 3 development processes.
Documentation will reflect software development carried out within an embedded Linux C++ environment; using UML for design documentation;and, may require some participation in design reviews, integration, and testing efforts to understand the overall documentation within the project "context".
Essential Knowledge: Candidate must have extensive experience writing technical documentation within a software development environment. Experience with or knowledge of the application domain. Development of defense systems & telecom -- is highly desirable.
Candidate must be experienced with the development process involved in creating software and hardware user guides, software development plans, system interface control documents, software design descriptions, and interface design documentation.
Requirements:
Essential Education: Minimum of a Bachelors degree. The degrees/majors should be in the same fields as the relevant skills such as Technical Writing, English, Systems Analyst, Info Technology or Computer Science/Studies. Experience can be substituted to some extent for academic credentials.
Experience: Relevant Background in one or more of the following areas is required.
Bachelors Degree and/or equivalent of 6-8 years on-the-job experience.
Essential Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, Macro development in Word, Experience using Linux applications a plus. Candidate must provide technical writing samples.
Required skills: At least six years experience writing technical documentation such as user manuals/user guides,
software development plans, test plans, quality assurance plans, and standard operating procedures. Ability to interpret software engineering specifications without assistance.
Additional skills to be considered in evaluation: (1) experience developing in accordance with a Department of Defense system development standard (MIL-STD-40051 or similar). (2) experience and/or training within a CMMI accredited environment. (3) military data system framework knowledge is desirable.
