Technology Consultant (MQ Series Admin)

Description:
Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs the day-to-day support responsibilities for MQSeries and related products. Increases staff skill levels and cross training. Brings the TMTS/MQSeries group as a whole up to true second and third tier performance insuring there are no single points of knowledge. Performs problem diagnosis in the MQSeries environment with or without IBM assistance, but able to do initial diagnosis alone. Drives internal Technical Services projects - single handedly guiding the effort and other staff personnel. Provides day-to-day validation of health/stability of MQ Series environment.

Ideal candidate will have these key traits for this role:
o Demonstrate advanced skill levels in multiple skill areas, particularly those relevant to MQSeries.
o Drive the movement of tasks to first and second tier.
o Share pager duty, per the schedule maintained by the Team Lead.
o Act as the Problem Owner for critical recovery situations.
o Perform or direct problem analysis and recovery by applying operating system, product and systems programming experience.
o Employ MQ Series debugging techniques to identify root cause.
o Assist Project Services and Application Services with application problem diagnosis in the MQSeries environment.
o Assist with problem recovery issues escalated from lower tiers.
o Execute escalation under our value system. Provide detailed communication to our management team for significant problems. Provide all known pertinent information to other areas when they need to be engaged in the problem.
o Perform installation tasks for MQSeries and MQSeries related products on all platforms using both standard download and SMP/E as installation methods.
o Perform configuration tasks for MQSeries and MQSeries related products on all platforms.
o Participate in internal EPS projects.
o Implement message flows consistent with corporate systems architecture.
o Participate in Project Services and Application Services projects as they relate to the MQSeries environment. Provides technical solutions.
o Work with project team to design and document message flow changes.
o Document the MQSeries environments that are supported and maintain Qmap documentation to the extent necessary for overall system support.
o Define MQ Series objects to meet customer requirements.
o Test the configuration before turning over the environment to the customer.
o Support migration of workload to new Hardened MQ environment.
o Interface of software systems with the hardware configuration and the applications systems utilized.

Qualifications:
Note: Individual does not need to relocate to Cleveland, OH.

Ideal candidate will have the following background:

Minimum 5 years experience with MQSeries Systems Programmer skills at a MQSeries V5.2 release level or higher (we are currently at V5.3 level).
Minimum 5 years experience coding in COBOL and/or Assembler.
Minimum 5 years working knowledge of JCL.
Minimum 1 year experience in use of SMP/E as an installation method.
Minimum 7 years experience in Application Programming utilizing MQSeries API can be used as a replacement for the System Programming skills requirement.
IBM MQSeries Systems Programmers education path that includes both application and system programming skills through the Internals curriculum.
